Post by: nigel_c on January 15, 2013, 05:16:20 PM
Brew day for me today so went a big Imperial Black IPA

Yesterday i crushed 300g of Carafa special 3 and soaked it in aprox 2.5 L of cold water.
As mash was doing its thing i ran it through a sieve and collected just about 2 L.

Batch Size 23L
Of 1.068
IBU 100
Yeast. Yeast cake off Nottingham 1.040 pale ale

Lager Malt 5.25 Kg
Vienna Malt 1.25 Kg
CaraPils 0.50 Kg
Crystal 60 0.50 Kg
Wheat malt dark 0.40 Kg

Columbus 35g @ 60 min
Amarillo 20g @ 20 min
Centennial 20g @ 20 min
Centennial 40g @ 5 min
Amarillo 40g @ 5

Amarillo 30g @ dry
Centennial 30g @ dry

Came up short on my efficiency so will adjust for next brew day.
2L of "Black" were added at the start of the boil.
Smells delicious. Big hop profile with little roasty flavor
