After using the Hook Head pale from Brewcon, first time using Minch HH Lager Malt and for bigger batches I normally scale back the efficiency. I way overshot my numbers as attached :( which was also probably down to long staged mash.

Anyways nice clean hot break break and lovely smells versus my stock Weyemans FMP.

I'll update thread with taste in 3 months  :P

I've found I get aprox 10% better efficiency form the Minch malts compared to the likes of Weyermans. Love the stuff.

Yeah I'm just using it for my base malt in future. Fresh and good efficiency. As long as it has a good turnover in the homebrew shops, we'll be getting the freshest of ingredients :)

Its great if you want it ;D but I had 13Kgs of grain in the MT and was expecting efficiency of 70-75 as is normal for me at that weight.

Normally I get 80-85 with standard 60 Min 6-7Kg batches.

Think the extended mash also helped, and this was also only the second time I was throttling with the chugger on a batch which also has me confused as I would have thought bigger volumes passing over the grain in shorter time would have got me same result as less water but longer time.

Could also be a factor that the grain was freshly malted?

molc

Chugger speed could be it. At full tilt, you might be channeling in the mash. I got a new mash bag as there was a void forming along the side of the Mt with my previous and efficiency went up 5-8%. Also the few times I've had long mashes, efficiency has gone up, so also quite possibly a cause.

I always give a stir half way through but at 5l/min v's 10-11 that could be it.
