Its all official an myself and the family will be winging our way to Waterford City in the new year.

Been an active member of London Amateur Brewers for several years, and we got to do some cool stuff over that period.

With luck we will get some place of decent size and be able to brew outdoors or somewhere that takes a lot less cleaning - should let me brew more often, and brew enough to host groups.

I personally have a big brew length, ~55L and usually bottle or prime into small kegs. Means there is a lot of different beer about at once.

Hoping to work on fast beer turnaround in the new year (mash to glass in < 2-3 weeks), especially english ales for which I will not have a ready supply any more. Have a handpull and suitable kegs to make it work. After that I will likely be doing hoppy styles with cooling, and I want to get my lager game on for the summer.

^ Maybe that will incentivise people for the meetups.

Got the idea to go large from a friend who had an even larger brew length of ~100L or so, and he had a lot of FV space too (perhaps at peak close to a hectolitre!) and a lot of barrels for aging. He did some kick ass stuff.

Basically make good beer. And then make enough of it so you are never reluctant to share. Pretty good philosophy all round.

Its actually harder than you think to go large, and you really have to have dedicated / specialised space to do it. I do 100L kettle BIAB in the corner of a non tiny apartment, and its a bit ludicrous TBH. I am at the edge of what is feasible. Looking forward to moving the brew day outdoors, and taking hours off the cleanup.

Yeah I just about get away with using a stock pot on the hob during brew day never mind having a 100L set up in the corner. I am hanging on to the dream of a custom built brewhouse in the back garden and talks are ongoing, progression is very slow! If that comes to pass I will look at upscaling my kit.

My brew days are only feasible due to a platform truck I bought from amazon. Its got a weight limit of 150Kg, so it can handle 80L strike liquor, 12-18kg grist, and the kettle weight (10-15Kg). So its semi-mobile when filled.

Got 2 circuits in the flat, which means 2 elements can be on at the same time.

Trying to get a single space where you can brew thats close to a water source, enough power, is ventilated/lets steam & dust escape, is cleanable, and lets you transfer into your FV starts to all get complicated. I have actually been lucky in the house. But i no-chill, so dont need plumbed water near the BK, or a drain, and I can sweat-transfer the cooled wort into the FV next day, day after. Split level flat, so I can arrange a sky hook to lift the BIAB bag out.

If I had to do cooling, or cold wort transfers into FV, I couldn't do it.

Okay so we landed. Both of us settled into jobs, little un into creche, and i am thinking about first brewday, or a potential meetup.

Living near the regional hospital, but i find it easy to get around if anyone wants to meet in town / anywhere different.

If anyone wants to join me for a brewday, that can be arranged too, whenever i get properly setup.
