Title: Igloo 10 Gallon Barrel Mash Tun
Post by: Damien M on May 31, 2013, 04:26:01 PM
OK here goes!  Is there anybody interested in a GB for the above.

I have done a little web research which is ongoing and am trying to get a supply of these in country for as GroupBuy a price as possible!! Not having much luck, but so far.

Up north for 105 euro ( as seen on a previous GB)
Over the Irish Sea for a little less but shipping hurts it.
Asked  OMaras Camping  to get a Group Buy price for 10 ish which would be in country and maybe get an ongoing stock for us HBers. They don't stock normally but are asking their supplier to get a quote

This is really an expression of interest list, so i you think you want a new/bigger Mash Tun and are willing to pay around the 100 Es put yer name here.  And before ye ask yes it does come with a low drain valve  but does not come with a false bottom or SS valve.!! :'(

If I didn't have a 36 litre coleman extreme, I'd be well up for this as they are very efficient :(

DaMun, mine arrived this morning, I'd be interested otherwise :(. Here are a few snaps which might get others interested. I'm waiting for a false bottom and a few fittings before I can finish it.

Thanks for looking into this DaMun. I'm in no major rush for this, let me know whatever you think is the best option and we'll go with that.

Cheers Damofto,

I'm the same as I have a 5 gal box cooler that might do until I follow Dempsey/Delzep  to All Steel All grain route!!!

I've asked O'Maras to see if they can get 5 and 10 gal barrel Igloos in their next order Oct Nov so we would have an Irish (euro) source (no offence to our northern brothers in booze) time will tell !!!?

If i find one(eh 2) US deliverable I'll let you know.

Damun.

Garry, is the diameter at the bottom the same as the top? i.e. What diameter false bottom do you use?

Hi Gar (that's what my mother calls me :P)

The base is around 310mm diameter. The top is a bit wider at 332mm. A 12 inch false bottom fits sweet.

It's idle most of the time if you ever want to borrow it. I can drop it over to you.

I dunno? It's 40l. The last brew I did had about 6kg grist and it was just over half full (I think)!

Been busy myself too...

€6 stainless steel 30cm candle holder from Ikea.

Wow that's a lot more affordable than the 40 euro false bottom off the homebrew company. Did you have to cut the slits yourself?

I need one for my boiler/biab set up. Would the same size slits be right for that?

I brought a Home Depot 10 gallon one back from Florida, it's the orange one that they dump on the coach's head after winning a match. I've bought the smaller of the 2 candle bases from Ikea.( actually I bought them both as I hadn't measured the base beforehand and didn't realise there was a choice, the bigger one is €8 ) I had planned on drilling about a 100 x 2mm holes but the slots look a whole lot easier and quicker. Does it run off clear from the slotted bottom?

Interesting.  I'll be passing through there in the summer - any baggage charges?  Did check in say much to you when you sat that up on the scales :)

My gang had gone mad in Abercrombir/Holister etc and we needed another case, so rather than buy a case I bought the cooler and filled it with their clothes, I think the extra case charge was either $40 or $60 but I was going to have to an pay extra baggage charge anyway so I thought that I might as well get some benefit from it and bought the cooler. I'm sure the cooler cost $39 in Home Depot. I left visiting a homebrew shop until our second week which was in Naples and the shop I was planning to visit had closed down. We're heading over again next year. I will order goodies online and have them delivered to my hotel, probably order them before I go there to make sure they arrive on time.

Cheers.  That's a great idea.  Time to have a think about what home brew related paraphernalia I could fill one with in the meantime.
