Raspberry Milkshake Beer

Dear Garden County Brewers,

I had a raspberry milkshake beer at the club night on Saturday. It was very nice! I believe it was from GCB?  Are you willing to share the recipe?!

It was lovely aright. JDC123 was the architect of that particular beer.

No worries, I'll add it here later.  In work atm and although I think I know the recipe by heart, I'll wait until I'm home just to be sure and check the finer details.

Here you go:

Beer Name: Friday 13th.
Beer type: Raspberry Vanilla Smoothie.
Batch size: 25 litres.
Mash 75 mins @ 67C.
Pilsner Malt 2.65Kg (60%).
Wheat Malt 880g (20%).
Flaked Oats 440g (10%).
Boil 60 mins.
Mosaic (AA 11.5%) 30g 10 minutes.
Mosaic (AA 11.5%) 70g whirlpool.
Mosaic (AA 11.5%) 200g dry hop for 3 days.
Other ingredients:
Dextrose 440g (10%) in the boil.
Lactose 700g after the boil.
Raspberries 1.3Kg in secondary.
Vanilla Pods X 2 (sliced and soaked in Rum) in secondary.
Yeast: Fermentis S-04
Ferment 19C.
OG 1.060.
FG 1.018.
5.5%.

I think that's everything. Not a cheap beer to make, but should be a great one for the summer months. Let me know how it goes if you make a batch.

Thanks for this. Luckily I've got all of these ingredients to hand (except for the raspberries). I might give this a whirl soon. Thanks for sharing the recipe

By the way, is there a reason for extending the mash to 75mins from the standard 60?

Maybe someone more experienced than me can clarify this one, but it's just something I do when using Flaked Oats as I read they are more difficult to convert?  I've also read of 90 minute mashes depending on adjuncts used.  Seems to be a grey area (plenty of those in brewing) with arguments for both.  As it's a relatively small grain bill to begin with, I figured an extra 15 minutes certainly wouldn't do any harm, but I'd imagine 60 Mins is also fine here.

I brewed this beer on Sunday and made some small tweaks.

I added 500g of Oat Malt to the original recipe and fermented with Burlington Ale yeast.

I've got the vanilla pods soaking in rum now and will get the raspberries at the weekend.

OG was 1060 (efficiency of 76%), FG to be determined (it's still bubbling away)

Really looking forward to trying this one out. It's my first time working with vanilla in a beer so I'm curious to see what the end result will be.

If it's half as tasty as JDC's one at Brewcon I'm on to a winner.

I'll update once I've tapped the beer.

Nice one Mick!  Yes, do let us know how it turns out.  The great thing about this one is that it's ready to go straight away (i.e. the fresher the better - not a beer for aging).

Sounds like a decent recipe in fairness but does it bring all the boys to the yard?

with the rasberrys in secondary do they kick off a second fermentation.  Also do they stay sweet or do they add some tartness to the beer. :-\
