SCD Brewoff - August

So, I floated the idea at the meet of us all brewing a specific beer style for a meet and then seeing how they compare and people seemed to like it.

So, how about we aim for the August meet, to give plenty of time to brew and condition a beer. As for a style, what do people think of a witbier? It's a perfect summer drink and there's a lot of scope for differences in the fruit and spice additions.
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter

Bubbles

I'd be up for that. I've never done a witbier before either, so it's perfect.

Why don't we get a couple of guest judges to rate them?

Would this be a SCD Wit only, informal no entry cost prize, quick draw macgraw lay em out swallay and spit competition :P?

Happy to contribute to Judging either as long as there is no Dollymount entries :'(

Never made one either, so I'm going to be there with my zester and guesstimating the fruit additions. Also need to find some nice fresh coriander to put into it.

Guest judges would be a fun way to do it. It's not even a competition, just a bit of a theme to the meet, as well as applying the ould collective group think into improving our recipes by learning from each others mistakes.

Count me in, hope to be able to get my herms up and running in advance so I can try and do a step mash. I have done a few of these now & was thinking about adding a small amount of rolled oats in to the recipe. I also have oat hulls to help with the fact that the wheat grain will pretty much turn to flour when crushed.

Just a quick question do we want to judge this at the end of August?

To back up Mr CH:

As my free G'B GF Kit is a BWB are ye men enough to allow some informal outsiders into the comp??
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Bubbles

Way too man acronyms there Will, but I think I get ya! ;)

You'll be very welcome.

CH, you're confirmed as our first judge!

molc

I thought I was already an informal outsider! :)

As far as I know John C is the only one of us from South Dublin so technically we are all outsiders :) More than welcome Will.

Bubbles

Nope, this isn't a comp. We're keeping this pretty informal.

johnrm

The Welshman is confumbled then.
