****UPDATE - Competition Website now live - https://competitions.nationalhomebrewclub.ie (https://competitions.nationalhomebrewclub.ie)****Good evening all,
Just a placeholder for next years National Homebrew Competition.
The National Homebrew Competition will take place on
Saturday 21st March 2020 (venue TBC).
It was discussed at the AGM and it was voted to allow non members. Non members will be charged more than members to enter their entries in the competition.
Good luck to all.
Below is a graph on when is best to brew each style of beer to have it in tip-top shape for the 2020 competition.

Good evening all,
Now that the dust has settled on BrewCon it's time to start gearing up for the Nationals.
As always the continued success of the Nationals is based on the help from club members and anyone else that we can rope in to helping on the day.
I would ask all members that have free time or capacity to add the 21st March to your calendars and come help make the National competition run as smoothly as it has for the past number of years.
If you have any questions feel free to post here or get in touch via DM.
Mick
Added to calendar.
Must start planning brews for it now.
Can I assume bottle sorting on the 8th March? Dropoff deadline the 1st March?

I'll let you know a bit closer the time but it will be in and around those dates alright.
FYI, there are now draft guidelines for Brut IPA (https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/how-to-brew/brut-ipa-style-description-1-0/) from the American Homebrew Association.
We will use these for 2020 Nationals.
Submit Brut IPA entries under 21B. Specialty IPA.
Hi All,
With the nationals just around the corner we have the usual dilemma where we look for volunteers to help run the competition.
We will need volunteers to help with
- Bottle Sorting
- Acting as Drop off points
- Stewarding
- Judging
- Cellarperson
- Scoresheet Manager
- Steward Manager
- Comp Organiser
- Judging Officer
- General Logistics
If you're interested stick your name down here. We will be setting up a conference call to divvy up the jobs soon. This is a good opportunity to see behind the scenes how the nationals is organised and run.
Thanks all,
Mick
We have also opened up the competition website for anyone that wants to register their entries.

It appears that the competition site has forgotten who I am...

Is this from last years registration? We purged everything from the database after the competition last year to comply with our GDPR commitments. Maybe that is the reason?
Non-member entry fee isn't mentioned on the competition website

There isn't one, you need to be a member to enter.
(Could possibly setup a €10.60 charge to allow non-members, gets you a free years subscription at the same time ;))
Entry fee for members and non members is the same this year. Next year we will publish a code so that members can avail of a discount.
Saw it mentioned that it was a tenner for non members in the AGM minutes

We were meant to have 2 tiers but unfortunately we had entries before we realised. Anyway it will definitely be a 2 tier system next year where members get to enter their beer for less than non members
Anyone available to collect 2 entries in Cashel co. Tipperary in the next week or so? Living in America now and I left it very late for my brother at home to get these entries in. Cashel is just off the motorway between Cork and Dublin if anyone is transporting entries from there.

I work in cashel and need to drop my own off. I could meet you and take the entries off you if you would like?

Thanks for the offer Donny but I think my brother managed to get them entered. Thanks anyway.
No worries
have you got a steward manager yet? I'm interested in doing that
I never knew the NHC had managers, I was sure it was only ever a team effort

Says there it's a role that a volunteer is needed for so I put my name forward.
Smart comments and funny faces notwithstanding.
Well done to everyone who helped out at the bottle sorting today.
