Title: Brewday - 24th January - The Malt House Trim
Post by: IrishBeerSnob on January 10, 2015, 12:05:21 PM
Hey Guys

Guessed I should get a sign up list going for this months Brew Day.

We are hoping to be able to get two grain brews done side by side, both BIAB
One Stout - which Blueshed has mentioned he has the Mad Cow Porter kit from Geterbrewed.
One Red Ale - which we need to finalise the recipe - i've emailed you all the grains available - I believe Jimmy has more as well.

I've to contact Rodney just to ensure we have ample power points, and water for the day.

We are hoping to mash in by 12 for both beers.

We'll also do a Kit Brew too.

So let me know below if you will be there.

1: Wayne
2: Janice not til the drinking!

We were hoping to Mash in for around 12.

Rodney has confirmed that power and water are no problems.

Little warning about posters if you are putting up any in the town. We at Liffey Brewers had a brew day a while back and the pub put 1,just 1 poster on a lamp post in Lucan. A litter fine was sent by the council for it >:(

Good call!
He's going to stick them up in the Off Licence and his bar, so hopefully no Litter Warnings!  :P

Yeah i was in with Rodney saturday - we're going to be in the sunroom area to the side as there is ample plugs, and we just need one of those Tap Hose adapter things for the wort chiller

Like this
(http://www.hozelock.com/modules/Cataloger/Cataloger.Image.php?i=tap-connectors_f_1_330_1.png&ac=87792)

if anyone has any kits lying around we could do a kit brew also.

We will need at least 3 Fermenters too to

We have access from 1030 with a Mash In time of 1200 that makes sense.

As john is brewing the Mad cow stout all grain kit  on saturday  ive been playing with beersmith etc to come up with a few recipes for the red ale

heres 2 possibilities

5kg pale malt
500g crystal malt
250g roasted barley   mash for 60 mins

10g Saaz and 25g ekg boil for 60 mins

21 litres = 5.7%

OR using Jimi,s excellent southern hemisphere hops -

5kg pale malt
500g crystal
50g roasted barley  mash for 60 mins

10g pride of ringwood  boil for 60 mins
25g motueka boil for 30 mins

21 litres = 5.6%

yeast _ safbrew 33 for either

any tweaks ??

Looks like I could be missing all the fun stuff. It would be two o'clock before I get there. If I can make it earlier I'll drop by, if not I'll have to give it a miss. Sorry!

Sure the milling etc will only mean we'll be ready for mash in at 12, we'll have to stager the mashes due to their only being one tap for the wort chiller.

In truth the boils will only be kicking off round 2, so you better be there! :)

Then the fun stuff is the boozing while brewing!

Ok, guys, last minute venue change.

Rodney in the Malt House unfortunately has a large funeral coming in so we'd not have the space, thankfully the lads in Bru Brewery are letting us use their space to go up and have a brew day.

Timings still the same. Bare in mind we are in the brewery so wrap up warm

Nice job lads. I got a bottle off varadamo a few weeks back and got around to trying it now.
Nice sweet malt with just enough roast.
Congrats.

For those interested I created a Untappd for the club and I've added our Irish Red Ale, just for those of us who enjoy untappd!
