Hey Guys
I've finally got round to brewing my Coopers IPA kit.
I brewed it as follows;
1 Kit Can
1 KG Light DME
US-05 Yeast
Hop Tea made with 25g Citra & 25g Amarillo
Pitched Yeast at 25C, and has been bubbling away nicely @ 22C
Its in the FV just over a week now, very vigourous bubbling going on, the OG was 1.058 i think, and when checked today was 1.010.
Thing is the bubbler is still giving off intermittent bubbling, is it still fermenting down? I wanted to rack it Secondary to dry hop with another load of Citra.
It's only the third kit brew i've done so just want to be sure I don't stuff it up.
Some people use the 1-2-3 rule.
1 week in primary
2 weeks in secondary
3 weeks in the bottle
Going by that rule, you are fine to rack to secondary now. If it is still fermenting, it will create a CO2 blanket in the headspace of the secondary and will protect the beer from oxidation :)
BTW, your recipe sounds good ;)
22C is a bit high IMO, but otherwise it should be good to move to secondary.
Cool it for clearing and dryhopping.
Ok, if it gets two weeks in secondary, is it ok to put the dry hops in or should I wait and only leave em in a week before bottling?
Try not to leave the hops in there for more than a week (some say 10 days max). So a week before bottling sounds good.
If you put the hops in now, make sure they are in a bag, then you can fish them out after a week.
Yeah, I thought as much, i'll dry hop next Tuesday.
Have a bag so will weigh down with sterilised marbles, just thinking amounts now.
Maybe 50G of Citra, do love that hop.
Went 60g Citra, 20g Amarillo
And bottled it there wednesday
Tasted nice before bottling, gonna be a long three weeks!
Man thats a lot of hops for a relativly low abv beer, will be interested to see how it balances out
80g is a good amount for the Cooper's IPA kit.
I've had great success with 80g Moteuka and 40/40 bramlingcross&sryrian golding.
Aroma doesn't carry well in kits as standard and it's an IPA after all :)
It has come out at 6.4% abv.
Had a trial bottle last night - first one gushed like mad - tasted really sweet? ???
Second bottle was much better, a little young but should be golden in three weeks. Nice bitterness and aroma to it.
I batch primed and am a little confused as to what happened the first trial bottle
dirty bottle maybe
