Title: [Advice] buying 2nd hand brewing kit from the UK
Post by: TheSumOfAllBeers on February 04, 2021, 12:22:52 PM
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, happy with any mods decision on where this post should go.

I have soured a plate chiller from a contact in the UK. Its seen some use and is surplus to requirements (for him).

We had settled on a price of £50 and shipping to my address was £12 or so.

But will this fall foul of customs? And what is the right way of declaring this as 2nd hand goods in a way that customs will leave it alone? Or will they open it anyway and charge me for their time?

If I am wrong here, please advise, its very difficult to get good answers on this - most of the citizens info type posts are only concerned with the primary sale, not resale of 2nd hand goods.

If you can get it routed through the north there's currently a grace period til April on goods valued below £135. I suppose you're weighing up the added cost of a parcel motel type service Vs the extra paperwork and potential cost, whatever that is.

Dunno about second hand, though. I think a sale is a sale.
