The same beer that won the GBBF last year?

Do you think it was a bad batch?

Going there tomorrow evening.

Was planning on heading there at lunchtime as well to get some Dark Star before it inevitably runs out early.

Is it the Hop Head you're referring to Rory?

They have two Dark Stars in offer at the minute.....one is the American Pale Ale which is the one I'm referring to the second is The art of Darkness which is a winner. Met the guy from Ards Brewing Company.....very approachable and invited me down to his wee concern. Brewers are very generous with their knowledge...wished me luck with my first all grain.

Saturday for me too, with new CAMRA membership card in hand - thanks to my mate for an early birthday present.

The Mrs said....and I quote....."Sure, why don't you head down in the afternoon. Have a few beers, grab a curry, then head back for the evening"........

........it was a while before I picked myself off the floor!

I'm sure there's a catch.................but, I'll worry about on Sunday morning!

Haha Quiet_Man!

What time are you heading down?

What about you Andy?

Will be heading down for 1ish with Iain - looking forward to some interesting beers. Last time I was there (3 years ago) it was all bitters and eggy pale ales.

Yeah we're heading down early cos it'll be cheaper and there'll be less people. Should be good.

It's 'loud shirt' day as well on Saturday, so make sure you wear yours...

Just back from it. Called in for the cheaper entry. Bloody conscientious gits I work wouldn't bow to my persuasion to stay for a half one. Back in the office with a severe thirst :(

Ah man! Just been looking at the beer list. St Austell's Proper Job!! One of my all time favourite beers. You beauty!

Erm, actually it's very very horrible and I don't recommend it to anyone; you'd all hate it. *phew*

Haha! Looking forward to trying some of the new local brewery beers like Clear Sky and Poker Tree. Also want to try the White Gypsy - Trent Bitter. Haven't had a bad beer by them yet!

Interested in what you think of Clear Sky's Fulcrum Wheat Beer. Got a couple of bottles in The Vinyard last week.

Thinking a Wheat Beer as my next brew!

Anyone try Innishmacsaint's new Porter?

My head hurts.

Good festival. Decent range of beers. And don't worry, Chris; I made sure to leave plenty for you today.

Just don't expect Katy Dalys to have any whiskey left   :-[

Nice one Barry! Any recommendations as to what should be the first beer of the day?

The obligatory Dark Star, if if hasn't run out.

A personal favourite if mine is St Austell's Tribute. One if those cases where the cask version is infinitely superior to the bottle

Was pretty impressed by Metalman's pale.

The rest is a bit of a fog, I'm afraid. We called into work at the end of the night to pick up our coats and now as a result there's a photo in circulation of me having drawn a c**k and b***s  on our meeting whiteboard. Mature!

It's going to be ~5 before I make it down now. Hope I'm not just left with the dregs!

So....Dark Star, St Austell, Metalman, Innishmacsaint, ClearSky............that'll do before a break for a curry! Then back 'til kicking out time........

mmmmmmmmmm.......me fears for my own head tomorrow morning!

Dont bother with the curry......Steak pie with mash and gravy from Jolly Pies or a Belfast Bap with relish at Hugh and Lillys....both within staggering distance and you never have to leave the hall.

So... any more verdicts... or am I a little early looking for opinions? It's not 11 yet.

(Not looking forward to my 2pm meeting on Monday, knowing what I drew on that whiteboard. Gonna be hard keeping a straight face. Hope it all rubbed out properly. Someone was sick in one of the lifts too; rotten)

By the time I got there and what from was left - Conwy Rampart was drinkable.

Not much else to report on, nothing stood out

Some good stuff on today. Dark Star - The Dark Arts was great, nice and hoppy but not too strong. Metalman - Smoke Screen was really interesting. Salopian - Hop Twister and Darwin's Origin were amazing, really hoppy i would guess nelson/galalxy/citra! Lovely stuff!

Also managed to have a bottle of the ClearSky/Fulcrum Wheat beer in the Garrick - great stuff! Really estery/bananay/clovey! A good wheat beer!

Garrick's a great wee bar. If only they could do even one ale on tap & not just bottles.

Although, they're one of the handful of Belfast pubs that manage to make Guinness taste amazing, so forgiveness where it's due.

Haha! It was the same for Iain and me - everything we had wanted to try was sold out but the beers we had were good! Think next year we might go Thursday evening/Friday day. Might be a good social time to go.

Sorry lads. Most of the stuff you wanted to try on Saturday I'd already sent down the Lagan by the end of Friday night  :o

Not a bad idea. Personally I find it strange to have a beer festival on a Thursday (work, etc).

Maybe we should arrange a club meet up for the Friday next year?

I will say the Kilmegan bottle aged stuff was pretty decent. Got a sneaky sample just after 11

Yep - not much choice left by the time I got there. Metalman's Smokscreen probably the best I sampled.

Head remarkably clear this morning!

Sounds good! We'll definitely have to get this organised!
