hi id like to enter this will be my first competition but iv got one question, when entering a beer do they have to fit exactly into the outlined ranges for a paticular bjcp category, say if the colour was too dark for a porter would it then be in the specialty category?

If it's a good beer and is only a little out in one of the ranges it should be fine! Re your porter example, I'd have to check but I'm almost sure there is no too dark in porter.

I'd say only call it specialty if it's miles out of the parameters or if you have specialty ingredients!

the srm for a baltic porter by the guidlines is 17-30, my recipe is pushing 60, everything else fits in perfect, how would be judged?

Color is under appearance along with clarity and head, so three components with 3 points available, the most you should drop for not the right colour would be 1 point, so all else going perfectly you should get 49 points with ease!

Is it possible to change the beer(s) being entered at some point? Obviously within a reasonable time  :)

I don't see any problems with that, just send me a follow up email if you wish to change

Slight addition to the terms of entry - non-swingtop bottles must be capped with plain caps (incl uding markings of any kind) to ensure anonymity

baphomite51

Did I see somewhere that there was a catogory for clone beers?

Are you looking for one colour or something as colour is a giveaway as well?

Interestingly the BJCP allows caps with graphics or text on them as long as they have been blanked out with black ink.

A lot of flip tops have the brewery stamp on it so maybe someone should bring along a black marker/paint stamp.

No, but it's an interesting idea though!

Anyone know how popular clones are in the club do many people do them?
