Aquarium Pump

So I'm thinking it's time I started aerating my wort so that I can give my yeast the best chance in life. Is it safe enough to just head to an aquarium shop and buy whatever is available or can I buy the wrong one.

From a sanitisation point of view, how do you ensure you're not pumping wild yeasts and bacteria through your wort?

I have one all ready (used to keep tropical fish) obviously I'd need some new tubing and air stone.
If you were to botch some clean cotton wool around the air intake or some such high tech solution?
Thats the way I'm leaning at the moment anyway

I'm a fan of such high tech solutions! I guess that could do the job...

I have had a lot of problems with the air stones. They are not the easiest to keep clean and fall apart very easily (they are cheap enough so that is not to bad). Best think is take a bottling wand and drill small holes in it. This works a treat and also you can aerate more wort at a time.
