Equipment & Chemicals / Re: Water treatment
Last post by TheSumOfAllBeers - Today at 12:09:03 AM
Depends how big your garden is.

Kinda wishing I am following my advice right now ... CO2 bottle just kicked. Now on sodastream life support (but at least the brown ale is tasting good).

Need to do closed transfers from FV. I guess I am going to have to use a (just kicked) keg as a CO2 source.

It is also very practical to have a second cylinder, so that you dont have to pull apart your kegerator in order to do brewery tasks like purge kegs, transfers etc.

This is great advise. Nothing worse than losing a tank overnight 😭

Hi Marek,
welcome to the group. Might be an idea to get in touch with some of the brewers of the Limerick Brewing Community, who have adopted some members from Tipperary, in the absence of an active Tipperary Brewing community.

Alternatively jump on the discord, which has a bit more activity nationwide, and is still growing.

Also check out the Humpday Homebrew Huddle - a nationwide zoom meetup for homebrewers. Main focus is education, and building bigger communities of homebrewers. Last one was great. https://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/index.php?topic=19530.0

Last post by dontpanic - May 05, 2021, 08:36:51 PM
Hi everyone !!
I'm Marek, I'm Polish and I'm based in Killoscully. I've started brewing in September 2019 and so far I've made 8 patches (first 2 extract and then 6 all grain). I love it.. satisfaction is priceless :) At the moment I'm drinking my Milk Stout and first time in a fridge in fermentor I have Smoked Pils (Rauchpils). Hopefully it will taste somehow ;) I hope soon circumstances will allow us to meet on some event.. see you then

Hi Billy and welcome,
Have a look in the top right of the Forum page, there is a link To Discord, you could find some activity there.
Otherwise, Sit tight, theres plenty of brewers in Dublin, no doubt someone will ramble in.
Some groups do Zoom meetups on a regular basis, comps are thin on the ground.

Yeah; that's another concern I have. I ferment in corny kegs in an insulated fermentation chamber at the back of a garage where the wifi signal, provided via an wifi extender, is already pretty weak. It's a pity Argos don't sell them; you could try it out for 3 weeks and if it doesn't work out simply wipe it dry and bring it back for a full refund - minus the box; they don't care.

I bought a wifi extender but it did eff all. It's back in the box and might be going back to Argos. I will see if I can sync the ispindel to it. The keg is in the kitchen, the hub in the living room. I get random readings from the ispindel, usually in the early hours of the morning. That is enough for me. I only wanted it to know when the ferment was finished or if it was stuck.

Brewing Communities / NHC Virtual Meetup aka Humpday...
Last post by TheSumOfAllBeers - May 03, 2021, 09:26:34 PM
The Humpday Homebrew Huddle returns, and in the absence of an alternative name, it looks like it will stick.

For the nationwide news section, could any reps in attendance mention anything interesting that their local brewing community is up to. For any non-NHC brewing communities in attendance, pop the hosts a message in chat or during the introductions, and we will give you space to describe what your community is up to.

Our key presentation this month is about running a Brewing Competition during Lockdown, brought to us by Manu from Capital Brewers.

For the Q&A session afterwards, if you want a specific topic discussed, let us know during the meeting chat or in advance.

A special note on video sharing & privacy:
We intend to share the presentations and Q&A sessions online on the NHC Youtube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKTwcZzin9GPU-ac4rDpr0g
Last months presentation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XFmCPRuyg4
In order to do so we require your consent if your voice or video appears in the recording.

Please let the hosts know so we can selectively blur out attendees that have not consented to this.

In practice, the labour involved in doing this is prohibitive. We would like to discuss options around this during the meeting.

Agenda:
8:00 arrive, say hi, some introductions
8:10 National News
8:20 News from around the country introduced by Club Reps/Club Members in attendance
8:30 Presentation: Brewing Competitions during Lockdown (Manu from Capital Brewers)
9:00 Attendees Q&A (please submit questions in chat or in advance)
9:30 End of formal meeting. Video session can continue to let people chat away.

NHC Zoom Admin is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
