Thanks! Hmmm tips ... brew a recipe a few times and tweak it to get it to your liking and watch your sanitation. I don't think there's much more than that ... oh yeah, don't use crappy ingredients!

Do you aim for a particular commercial beer though to win a cat?
I admit I used Sierra Nevada pale ale as a yard stick in brewing my apa for the competition!

I used this recipe (http://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=369668) as my base but tweaked it a bit. I dropped the Pilsner malt content and added some Wheat malt I also added some Citra to the recipe.
