Looking to buy 1 or more 6 Gallon Primary Fermentor Glass Carboys.
Thanks.
Have been looking for one or more of these myself, not the easiest thing to get without importing from USA.
Group buy?
Meet too on a GB!? :-\
Good idea. From where I wonder?
6 US Gallons = 5 real gallons... is that what you mean?
Ideally the from where is: The closer the better!!
So I have send a query to an Irish supplier to see what comes out of it and requested a combined Carboy and carrying handle price.
So, to that end and not intending to stand on toes let a list commence
1. Damun 2
Mybeerandwine.ie still have the 5 gallon carboys listed, if that's what you're looking for.
25 litre, wide neck carboy. anybody interested in this? Roughly €23 + delivery €?
Alealex is that just the one or can you get more of those ?
Just thinking of buying one Greg. This or 54litre one in plastic protection bin, €27 + delivery charge €? Will upload pics later. Delivery per item is €20. Cheaper on gb.
I'm Interested too in the wide neck version, easy clean!!

I would be interested too at that price alealex. I have one question though, looking at both those pictures i am wondering how airtight is that twist on lid and that setup for installing the blow off tube ? Even a mini group but would be nice on this. Cheers. ;D
Just to give you an idea what it looks like. 34 litre one with wide neck (130mm) €35-37 + delivery, comes with airtight cap and plastic bin. Thats the biggest of wide necks.
Here is the biggest of all. 54litre carboy at the price of €27-30 + shipping (Yes cheaper than 34litre wide neck) comes with bin.

It's designed to be airtight and lid has a silicone seal. The lid itself is an airlock just fill midle part with water. This is like massive jar and comes with harness.
To be honest 54litre one is to big for my needs anyway. will go with the flow cos any of the wide neck is good with me.
We'll see what interest does it gain.
Yes the 54 litre is way too big for my needs as well but definitely interested in the smaller of the two.
50 euros ( budget) per vessel seems fair for Vessel, airlock and carrying system. I'm in for 2. I started a list . down this post but I'll start it again
1. Damun 2 34 ltr

Are we definitely talking about only getting the 34 litre ? The 25lt is more appealing to me tbh, i would put my name down for two of those.
Alex,
I'd be interested in the following:
1. 25L x 2
2. 54L x 1
Not sure if there is a list here but put me in the line.
Thanks.
1. Da Mun 2 x 34 ltr.
2. Snapcrackle 2 x 25 ltr + 1 x 54 ltr.
3. Greg2013 2 x 25 ltr.
1. Da Mun 2 x 34 ltr.
2. Snapcrackle 2 x 25 ltr
3. Greg2013 2 x 25 ltr.
This is an expressions of interest list, and added yer requests ,
If we see how many we want and get a combined shipping cost. We can then divide the shipping by the number of vessels and each member pays their fraction per vessel of shipping and each vessel is an equal fraction of the shipping regardless of size!!! OK??

Thanks.
Sent few emails to the supliers, but didn't get reply on it yet.
Will check courier company early next week.
Only know that 54litre one is h=72cm d=50cm
I'll keep you up to date next week.

Good idea Eoin, can mods move it to where it should be - GB section.
Seems like it can only be sent on the pallet(s) because 54 litre ones are bit problematic..

Guys,
Brian from HomeBrewWest offered help on this one. As shipping of the product is lets say 'delicate', carboys are taking lots of space but weight is little, it has to be shipped on pallets. Price per item may be around €15-20 :( but I'm still working to get it down to €10-15 :)
Brouwland, via HBW offers:
~25 litre wide neck
http://www.brouwland.com/setframes/?l=&to=http%3A//www.brouwland.com/shop/catproducts.asp%3Fcfid%3D4%26id%3D456%26pid%3D455&shwlnk=0
~54 litre normal opening
http://www.brouwland.com/setframes/?l=&to=http%3A//www.brouwland.com/shop/catproducts.asp%3Fcfid%3D4%26id%3D456%26pid%3D455&shwlnk=0
~34 litre wide neck is not on Brouwland offer, but has 34 normal opening.
As you can see 34l and 25l are not exactly what we were aiming for but 54l is very same.
Brian is asking for prompt reply as his Brouland order is ready to go. It's a group buy so I think is fair to give group answer.
I think it's very best offer for at least 54 litre ones regarding price and shipping.
Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to leave anybody out but courier companies are taking it as not insured product (means if it makes the trip you have it if doesn't we're sorry, no money back). Thats only my opinion on this subject.
Please tell us what you think, keep in mind Brian has limited time to add this to his order.
Cheers, Alex.
I'm really after the 34 in the wideneck, as want easy access, and 25 litre is too small and 54 too big, so don't really fancy the brouland offerings personally, although others might.

I'd still be keen on getting wide neck ones, but again Brian if you can source widenecks get us a price?

GB's go on and On and Onnnnnn... Mister B never too late!
Cheers to Brian yet again. Only thing i seem to remember the original ones were only around 25 euro for the 25 litre and the Brouwland ones are double that at 45 euro aprox. That's a big jump in price for me. Am i miscalculating or is that right ?
Quote from: alealex on October 10, 2013, 11:10:30 PM
Just to give you an idea what it looks like. 34 litre one with wide neck (130mm) €35-37 + delivery, comes with airtight cap and plastic bin. Thats the biggest of wide necks.
This is the one I am interested in, for that price but if it's going to escalate and/or can't get the wide neck then I will not be interested in it. I'm also not happy with the risk of getting nothing but shattered glass :-\
Do the caps and airlocks come with the Brouwland 25 litre ones ?
Quote from: Il Tubo on October 24, 2013, 02:11:05 PM
I got the 250 NHC drinking glasses, which are quite fragile, delivered on a pallet from England, and not one was broken!
Theres quite a difference between 54 litre carboy and 250ml glass. There's also price difference and I wonder if it's worth to take a chance :-\
What's the latest status of this group buy?
Is the main issue just with shipping insurance? And if so do we have a final answer on that?
None of the courier companies want to deliver 54 litre carboys :(
34 litre ones can be delivered to the door for the price of €20
Good news on the 25 litre ones, two of them can be delivered to the door for €20
DPD takes no responsibility for any glass products in the parcells but seller says he's sending few hundreds carboys in the season with hardly any complaints :-\ in other words packed well with double layers of bubble wrap, etc, etc
Any thoughts on this one?
I'm willing to proceed on the basis that the carboys are well wrapped and understand the liability (and shipping) is mine.
Barring further clarification maybe everyone can make up their minds on their risk appetite?
Maybe those who wish to withdraw can delete their names from this list and the remainder are those willing to proceed?
I'll withdraw sorry. Also thinking about the space in storing another carboy in the tiny house I have. Perhaps in the future....

Cracow, Poland.
Seems like the're fairly busy this time of the year. Not too worry, we'll get there. I don't think irish companys have poor customer service (I've seen worse) it's all down to fusy customers ;D
alex any joy getting in touch with the seller since?
I've no time, money and patience for all this phone calls, it's a shame but it all stops at the shipping insurance point.
I personally don't fancy getting shattered carboy :'( or rather don't fancy chancing it without insurance.
Seller says theres very few accidents regarding glass carboys but no courier company wants to insure this product on international routes.
Don't know what to do :-\
Thanks for efforts also. Can only suggest that everyone who wants to proceed does so on the firm understanding that shipment is not insured.
After that the outcome has nothing to do with you Alex.
Thanks for understanding, just out of my hands. Since monday I'm waiting for the reply of some german courier called Shroeder. We'll see.

Thanks for all your effort alex regarding this possible group buy of carboys. I agree with your point of view regarding the issue of shipping insurance. I see you mentioned that they are coming from Cracow in Poland. Maybe someone here might know a driver or transport company who regularly make trips between Poland and Ireland who may be able to help in this situation? Just a thought. Again really appreciate all the effort you put in up to this point in time.
Here's what I'm planning to do:
I'll order 34litre one and I'll ship it with dpd (no glass insured).
Fingers crossed it'll come in one piece. Will report back what is the package like etc.
If I'm happy with this we can push this gb to it's conclusion. I'm going to order another 2x25litre ones on gb as per list.
If it comes in bits I'll defo regret it greatly :'( but I can't see any other way to push this gb thru to it's end
Lets wish this carboy safe journey!! ;D

Definitely a huge risk on your part Alex but it is appreciated by me and the others i am sure :D
Thanks Alex
Feck it, I'll take the risk. Have a feeling is not a wise decision to courier it, there must be a reason why brouwland doesn't courier 34 or 54 litre carboys, seems like courier companies are not great enthusiasts of this idea neither.
I'm willing to take a risk on some 54`s if you get some of the others safely.

I think it is only fair if everyone on the list insures Alex's test buy including delivery. It is a test for our group buy so Alex shouldn't take the total hit should things go wrong. It only a small amount if spread among us all.

Yep. I agree with underwriting Alex's purchase.
I am willing to contribute to underwriting alex's buy, i think its only fair after all. ;D
Why don't you just order more than you need, if you get no damages result! and they can be sold on, if you do get damages nobody looses out and you should still have enough.
The transport and handling will be totally different for 1 vs a pallet of them which should be better.

Pallet of them probably would be a safer bet actually ;)
Ordered this morn, it will be on its way tomorrow morning, should get it by friday/monday.
Just wanted to speed things up a bit, hate waiting forever.
I agree pallet would be a safer option but I'm not really sure if it's still cheaper :-\
2x25litre in one parcel @ €29.16 inc vat is cheap and delivered to the door - €14.58 each
We'll get back to it by the end of the week.
By the way 34 litre one was €31.25 @ 1EUR=4.16PLN
@All: Thanks for the good word, thats club unity!
Your carboy will be in my thoughts.
Thanks Alex.
Hope it's not Dpd, just been down my local depot and boxes were being "air freighted" into the back of the van :o
very nearly had 2x 5 gallon ones ordered today for a certain apple beverage, think i will wait a bit longer, thanks Alex. Can i increase my order if i wish ?
Hi Alex,
is it still possible to get in on this? Can I add a couple to the list?

Yes, it's dpd. Don't think gls and others are any different.

I can't see why not list is still open, would suggest to wait till I get my
broken glass carboy :)
Alex, are 54l 's also still being considered or completely out of the question?

Why not, probably safer on the pallet then parcel but thats the options to be considered.

I was just looking at a newly launched "big mouth bubbler" on Northern brewer.
It can only be a matter of time before a Homebrew shop starts to sell them here

Not really
Crap!

Crap indeed. What's the compensation procedure in this situation? Does the NHC pay or do we all chip in to repay AleAlex?
It's ok lads nobody died, lesson learned. That was yesterday (I'll drink for it this sat night) :)
Ok. Thanks for all your effort Alealex. I appreciate it.
Balls. Hard luck Alex!
Thanks for all the work may your next brew be the nectar of the gods

If a significant numbers here are interested would you consider palletised delivery from the producer in Italy? http://www.vetrariapescia.it/ or a supplier here http://www.destillatio.de/ or http://www.bouteilles-et-bocaux.com/shop/Bouteilles-bonbonnes/bouteille-bonbonne-25-litres-avec-panier-en-plastique.html
Aye, I'd be up for 4.
Yeah could be interested.
Would a pallet guarantee their safe arrival?
When you think what is shipped around the world what is sooo special about some big glass bottles??

Sure I agree, but I think there are a lot of variables that cannot be controlled from our end. Like, how well these items are packed and also how much care the shipping company takes with such 'fragile items'? I suppose if the homebrew shops can get them delivered in one piece, there's no reason why we can't either.

One can only imagine that the glass companies themselves are well aware of whats needed to make sure the glass gets to hwere its being sent in good condition. The main issue seems to be finding the producers of the carboys. Although I've found the large 54L round type ones I can't seem to find the producers of the 23L straight ones as you see them online.
