There seems to be enough interest in the Blichmann Beer Gun to look into a group buy. So far Blichmann haven't replied to me and I don't think they will as they only want to deal with distributors or retailers. An Irish retailer also has not returned my email BUT...
I have heard from one UK shop and they are offering
' 5% discount on orders of 5 - 9 bottling guns & accessory
kits or 10% on 10 and over.'
They retail for £62.00 for the gun and £18.95 for the accessory kit which is £81.95 or approx €102 overall. Delivery will be approx €20 overall.
There may also be a need for a gas splitter which is about €7 but that may be an individual choice.
There doesn't seem to be much more wiggle room than that.

I'm in as well.
Hopefully a group buy will avoid the inevitable "I'll give you my Blichmann Beer Gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!" :)
I tried the UK suppliers and a second got back to me offering 5% off and free delivery when 15 are ordered.
I also tried HBW, who in fairness got back to me, they put them on their site at €150 for the package.
Just to be pedantic and so people are not disapointed it's my understanding that the Blickman is NOT a counter pressure bottle filler. They do not seal onto the neck of the bottle and so just dispense the beer gradually/smoothly to the bottom of the bottle via a simple pressure sensitive tip. They MAY be convertable to counter pressure but I'm not sure. Given the design/technology €100 seems exessive. Having said all that I might well get one as a basis for conversion.
Will
correct, these are not a counter pressure filler but they do have the capacity to purge the bottle with co2 prior to and after filling. It is just a very handy way to fill bottles from a keg without the hassle of foaming etc and should give the bottles a longer shelf life than sticking them under the beer tap.
bump [smiley=wink.gif]
When r u planning to order those?
As soon as we have the numbers.
Hmmm have to talk to Santa about getting me one for xmas :)
That's what I got from Santa 2 years ago when I told him about my plans of joining the homebrewers 'sect' :)

QuoteBloody hell. Does that cork bottles too, or something?
Not sure about it but the head is replaceable and comes in different sizes.

think taf is in as well how many do we need again for a group buy ?
To quote a supplier 'We could offer you 5% discount on orders of 5 - 9 bottling guns & accessory
kits or 10% on 10 and over.'
5% looks approx 100 but once I have the numbers I'll get a final price. 10 guns will be circa €90.
An early Xmas pressie for me, put me down for one,

Toying with the idea of getting one of these. If you get to 9 I just might make myself number 10 as no point in missing out on the extra 5% ;-).
Have to discuss this with Santa, elves and probably the easter bunny as well. I was wondering when do you intend to close the book on this and pull the trigger on the purchase?
Declan
There is no limit on the number really. It might change the shipping but I'll find out if we get that far. I was hoping to get these before christmas so I can bottle a load and give them away but we'll see.
I also need to find out for certain if the extra y piece is needed.
Looks like i got here just in time! ;D (just the one though, mate pulled out)

So we have ten. We can take more as ten was the minimum to get the 10% discount. I sent the vendor an email to clarify the price but it looks like it will be about €93 delivered without the 'splitter and Flare' . I need to clarify exactly why this might be needed. It seems the splitter and Flare will be approx €7 which takes us to €100.
This is from the blichmann site with regards to the adccessory kit:
'Accessory kit for the Beer Gun with necessary tubing and fittings. Includes a liquid ball-lock disconnect, a 5 foot length of hose for your CO2 line with 1/4" stainless flare connectors on each end, one stainless 1/4" swivel nut, and a brass 1/4" NPT X 1/4" flare adapter.'
'Also needed but not included is a T or Y adapter to split the gas line between the keg and the Beer Gun.'
This is the the picture h&g sent me of their extra splitter. Basically it will split the gas line and connect it to the accessory pack beer line that is 1/4 inch.
I think I have enough bits to cobble this together but others might not.
I am going to get a final price on this once I can get a currency conversion. I don't want to be short and go looking for more money or end up losing out myself.

PAYMENT DUE
Payment is due on the guns. It is not too late to add numbers but if they drop below ten then the deal is off :(
Once we have the money we can make the purchase. The price is €100 delivered. If anyone wants the extra splitter add €8. So €108 for the gun, accessory kit and splitter connector.
You must list what size splitter you need or I won't know which one to order. It is a 5-16 inch Splitter and Flare or 3/8 inch Splitter and Flare. To give you an idea the flare will fit on a corny disconnect, I am told. See the previous picture.

Have you a gas disconnect? it does not come with one of those but it does come with a liquid but I'd have to check again. you also need beer, a corny and gas.... :-?

Worth a shot. First 12 in gets a gun....stragglers may be catered for...
I and I'am guessing the rest of the people on the list have being watching the posts on Brian's counter pressure bottler and trying to decide. At first I was thinking
I'd only ever be bottling for bottles that would be drank with in a week or two.So was thinking the blichmann gun would be fine and very handy .but now i'm thinking it may be a bit of a waste if I do have (which I probably will ) bottles to put away for a while
Of the people that have decided beer gun over counter pressure why? Think I will go for the counter pressure in the end.

QuoteLads, just a reminder about counter pressure bottlers. At the moment they're like unicorns: they don't really exist. There is no group buy either.
So if you're backing out of this buy to buy a unicorn, just remember, you can't buy unicorns!
Wont agree with that. No one is talking about unicorns.
Certain model was located in states (http://morebeer.com/view_product/18279#) and if there will be an interest in getting more then one we could start bulk buy for that.
Are we down to 9? We had 12 ...we need at least 10....
I'd like the guns to be in Dublin so we can be bottling beer for christmas presents at the latest. 10 is our goal although we can do 9. I'll try put the squeeze on the vendor for a 10% discount on 9 but at the outset he said only a 5% discount on up to 9 guns. The difference between 9 and 10 guns is approx £6 so I'll see what he says but if anyone has to wait until payday that is no problem...just keep us in the loop. :)
just going to the bank now
in relation to counter pressure bottle fillers, complete pain the the arse, I made one years ago, after 10 bottles I got sick of it. Chill the overcarb'd beer to 1-2 deg C and beer gun - simples

I'm still in, but may not have the funds until Friday, due to dog being run over and car breaking down, both being expensive incidents, which have to be paid for this week. Just read it, I don't really want to piss on anyones chips, I found the valve sequence aqward and slow, others may be happy to live with it. Ask the question in a few months how much use it gets, I also looked into copying the beer gun but it was too much work, easier to buy the real deal IMO

QuoteThe wit foamed a lot so it's fairly flat. The bitter is perfect!
Foamed a lot on the way into the bottle or on the way out?
How long between bottling and opening?
QuoteChill the overcarb'd beer to 1-2 deg C and beer gun - simples
Aleman have you tried this with the beer gun with good carbonation results.
QuoteI don't think a unicorn counter pressure bottler would really have done much better.
Wroooonnnggg. Just for testing purposes bottled over carbed stout. Worked like a charm.
I have a cheap plastic tap which I put a tube extension on, so it's like a beer gun without the gas purge, the top of the bottle can form a semi seal. It works but it's not ideal due to airs pick up. The carbonation is easy to overcome, wind up the pressure on the reg, presuming the beer is in a corny, chill the hell out of it, I found less than 2 deg good. When filling have the bottles wet and cold/cool drop the pressure to around 5psi and work away nice and quickly, leave a small head space. The super cold beer will hold the CO2 in solution, the wet glass will minimize nucleation points for break out. This will leave foam to a mimimum, you won't and don't want to eliminate it, cap on foam, if foam takes up the head space, air can't be in there.
So yes, the results can be good, once you've had a bit of practice. The beer gun will make it easy to work fast.
I think that the blichman beer gun is a useful beer bottling tool and I am buying one. It is not the same as a CP bottler in that the bottled beer is not fully seperated from any air pickup. The CP method does a better job of removing air particulary with using a pre evac method, like I put on the one that Jacob is testing. In commercial beer bottling double pre evac using a vacuum pump to suck out the co2, air mix, twice, finally filling the bottle with only co2,means the beer can have a longer shelf life.

Is it poss for me to get my courrier to collect, it would need to be secured to a bit of 2x1" timber or something and a small bit of wrapping so it don't get bent, Taf may also avail of this as we meet regularly.
