Title: Plastic Buckets from Allpack
Post by: Dr Jacoby on October 07, 2012, 09:30:59 AM
With the recent bulk grain buy over I've been looking for a way to store all the grain. I came across a crowd in Sandyford called Allpack who sell tamper evident plastic buckets in various sizes up to 20 Litres. They're pretty cheap and the buckets are liquid and air tight. Here's a link:

http://www.alpack.ie/Tamper_Evident_Plastic_Buckets/Default.336.html

I'm not sure if there is scope for any savings on a bulk deal with these guys, but if there is, would anyone be interested?

I'd take one or two 20l.

I have used these buckets. Theyre handy alright.
I asked about bigger buckets and he said he can get 30l buckets but we would want to be buying alot of them for him to consider getting them in.

I cant remember the price he said they would likely end up costing, but it was coming in at a lot less than the price of the fermenters you see in hb shops. (think he was saying 7 or 8 euros)

I'd be interested in the 30L ones.  I'd go for two 20L too.

These buckets are good. I bought 10  20L ones 2 years ago to experiment with, trying to push, press, melt, stretch, boil and everything else to see if I could form them into conical fermenters. :-[. It did not work :'(, but I did conclude that they are strong.

I'm interested in 2 x 20L but will need NHC Express to get them to Cork.
Am I right thinking the all-in for 20L is <EUR5 plus a homebrew for delivery?

Hi James, do you reckon 20 x 30L buckets would be enough to entice them to order them in? We're nearly there and it would be great to get this off the ground.

Just had a quick look. I wonder are they air tight? I'll give them a buzz in a while and get some more info.

The Alppack website says they are liquid and air tight.
I note the picture has a 1 litre Homemade Jam, Jam needs to be airtight.
I assume the same with the Packaging Centre.

It turns out that Alpack can't source 30L buckets, so I contacted The Packaging Centre and they sent the following response:

"Hi Peter,

I will do my best to give you the best price possible on the pale's mentioned below.

The main difference on the Tamper Bucket to the non-tamper bucket is just a small piece of plastic that has to be broke after you seal the pales in order to open the lids, Please see attached picture. Once this is broken the lids acts like any normal lid as per non tamper evident buckets.

Yes the buckets will stack inside once the lids are removed,

Here are the cost on the buckets.

30 litre Tamper Evident buckets € 8.00 + vat each
20 litre tamper evident buckets € 3.70 + vat each
5 litre Buckets Tamper evident € 2.20 + vat each
2.5 litre Pails tamper evident € 1.55 + vat each

Please let me know if you would like me to put a quote togeather for any amount required,

Thanks for the enquiry,

Best regards
Glenn Hudson

The Packaging Centre

If anyone else would like to get a few buckets based on the above prices could you post here asap. I'd like to send on a full list for a quote in the next day or so. Cheers

Why 30l are over twice a price of 20l ?
Title: Re: Plastic Buckets from Allpack

I emailed him about that but he hasn't replied yet. It's still quite cheap I think but let's see what he says.

At a guess, its production and sale size. When buying concrete blocks you can buy 1/2 size ones as well, but they are twice the price because of smaller production quantity's.
Title: Re: Plastic Buckets from Allpack
Post by: Dr Jacoby on October 17, 2012, 04:57:45 PM
Here's the response:

"The 30 litre pails are a more robust pails much sturdier and have more metal in the handle,

Also they do not come from the same manufacturer as the other pails do. This is also a factor of why the cost is higher,

We bring them in on their own as with the others we group 5's 10's 15's 20's etc. all in one load so cost is reduced.

Best regards

Glenn"

I'd still be keen on 3 x 30L, as it's still a good price. I presume that these are not the non tamper, as we don't really need them do we. That's more when chemicals and stuff are being sent, so they know it's the original contents.

Lads, I'm drawing the orders to a close. Cara Éire's is the last. The Packaging Centre sent me an initial quote but I've had to amend the list since then and I don't want to keep tinkering with the list.

Please remember that VAT needs to be applied to the prices quoted earlier in this thread. I'll break down the precise costs on Monday or Tuesday (depending on when I get a quote for the final list). They're offering some savings on the smaller buckets but the prices earlier in this thread are pretty much accurate.

Ok lads, I have the final quote in and I've broken down everybody's charges, including VAT and NHC contribution (See below).

The bank a/c for this bulk buy is Ulster Bank Celbridge, National Homebrew Club, sort code

The sooner everybody pays up the sooner we can arrange to pick up the buckets. As usual, post here on the forum to confirm that you have made the payment.

1. Dr Jacoby: €52
2. Mike: €29.50
3. rossa : €29.50
4. JamesM: €30
5. Jacob: €40
6. BlackBrew (Cork): €30
7. Trombyy : €10
8. Taf : €30
9. johnrm: €20.50
10. Cahalbrua: €20.50
11.flibustjer: €20.50
12. Ratsathome : €30
13. Padraic: €48.50
14. Colmc: €20.50
15. Declan (Cara): €71.50

If anyone wants to double check their charge, here is the breakdown of costs on the final quote (remember to add 23% for VAT and between 50c and €1.00 for the NHC contribution):

30L BUCKET = €8
20L BUCKET = €3.70
5L BUCKET = €1.81
2.5L BUCKET = €1.26

I live in Naas so I'll probably borrow a van to pick up the buckets from the Naas Road and bring them home. I have space to store them until people can pick them up. We might need the NHC Express service to kick into action to sort everything out  :D

Haha! Good idea! It would be great to make something as sturdy as the 60L Hop and Grape plastic fermenters that they used to sell.

Once we get the final payment from Cara Éire we are good to go. I'll let everybody know asap about collection/delivery options.

I can warehouse some in Naas and if people would prefer to collect from Shane's in Leixlip I can drop some up there too (I'll be heading there anyway to collect a drip tray from Shane).

Hopefully I'll have the buckets by tomorrow or the day after.

I'd prefer to pick mine up in Leixlip as well. If that's not a problem...

I can collect city centre bound buckets (from Leixlip) if any one wants me to, just to  compliucate the logistics.

Or if anyone is coming from Naas to the city centre and can save me getting Shane to look after more of my stuff!

The buckets were bought from the Packaging centre on the Naas Rd (close to the long mile road). I didn't go with Alpack because they couldn't source 30L buckets - so I won't be going to Sandyford.

I'm collecting everything tomorrow and dropping some out to Shane's place. Maybe we could get a list going (short notice I know) for people who want their buckets brought to Leixlip.

But Ive a 30l bucket and a lid somewhere - have you any idea where they are?

I was down for 3 buckets, you brought me in 1 with a lid that night in the lord edward. Declan brought back the one he was given too many, that night - but no lid. Does that mean you have 1 bucket and 2 lids for me?
