Title: BBQs

Lads,

With the weather getting a (bit) better I'm itching to cook outside. Any recos for good places to get barbeques from (pref not too far from Dublin). Looking for a shiny new one with a min of 3 burners but with solid construction. Weber seem to be pretty common but are a bit on the pricey side

I had an outback 3 burner, it lasted for 8 years with heavy use during spring -autumn and was left out but covered over winter (stupid I know)

Woodies stock the Weber grills.

I recommend going charcoal, not gas. You won't regret it, as long as you get a chimney starter to go with it. Great bit of kit:

I have a Weber I got a few years ago. Found a guy in Newry on eBay and they were at least 100 cheaper than down south. Can't remember the name but search for webers on eBay and he should pop up as cheap:)

Why the charcoal? I got the gas and I love it to bits!

Also I leave mine outside all the time covered and it seems to have no I'll effects. The Weber is all enamel though, so not much to rust I guess.

The plates in mine are covered in so much drippings over the years I get a lovely Smokey bbq flavour as well. Plus it just takes 5 mins to warm up. Couldn't go back to charcoal after it.
Granted a good wood smoke is still probably better, but such convenience :)

Should have specified gas! For weekday cooking it'd def be gas. For weekend cooking I'm going to smoke :)

Last year I  bought a gas Weber bbq from these guys in goatstown in Dublin. At the time they were 1
€100 cheaper than woodies.

I had a beautiful BBQ in Sydney with gas burners heating lava rocks.
it was the best of both worlds and i'll eventually get one here too.

I agonised over the "gas vs charcoal" thing for a long time. The gas is really convenient if you're using the thing every day, but I knew I was only going to do grilling at the weekend. I'm happy with the charcoal because the chimney starter makes lighting the thing a breeze.

As the weather gets finer, I'm thinking of last summer - glugging homebrewed IPA while sitting right beside my grill, getting bathed in hickory smoke. Roll on the summer, can't wait.. :)

I've been thinking about getting the Weber smoker, maybe next year.

Ribs and pulled pork for me.. Even bought this book a few months ago as some sort of preparation/porn for when I finally get my smoker:

To be pedantic a gas setup is a grill not a bbq.. A bbq is a charcoal and wood fired oven and should be used like an oven.. Lid on,  low temp and slow cook... You can get similar results on a gas grill using a smoke box and only lighting a third of the burner.. I find planet bbq. Co. UK great value.. My webber smoker was nearly 100 euro cheaper off them

I'm with you all the way. I had a gas bbq for years made by beefeater which is a good quality Australian make. I went back to charcoal (weber) with the chimney starter.
I found the gas bbq took a bit of time to clean where as the charcoal is just a case of emptying out the ashes.
I wont be going back to gas.

Off last week and doing work in the garden in the good weather had my first two BBQ of the year. May they be the first of many this year.

Have to say I am another that votes for the charcoal and chimney starter, can't be beaten in my books.

I have cooked on gas bbq's and a brick built charcoal bbq but I got myself a weber kettle after the brick one was removed during some renovation. You just can't beat the flavour of charcoal and you can use the kettle for indirect cooking and smoking. Gonna try a slow cooked pulled pork this summer.

I'm itching to fire up the grill too. I've got a Weber Smokey Joe! (hey, it's not about size, it's what you do with that counts... apparently...  ;)  :) )

I've got some nice experiments planned including a hickory smoked meatloaf - with smoky cowboy beans done on the grill as well.

Time to stock up on Frank's Hot Sauce...

My butcher too, they are hit and miss sometimes.
