Title: Looking about Interest in Group Buy on Kegging Systems €43 each.
Post by: Shaun on April 07, 2015, 06:18:19 PM
Hi Folks
Just wondering what the interest would be for a group buy on some reconditioned kegging systems. Saw this on done deal http://www.donedeal.ie/gardenfun-for-sale/cornelius-corny-beer-tanks-ball-lock-homebrew-tank/9090315?offset=1

Minimum order is 30 kegs, if people are interested maybe we could get in touch with him and make sure it's legit first. They're the proper type of kegs and I wouldn't mind getting two or three at that price.

Let me know.
Thanks,
Shaun

We organised previous group buys of kegs from can direct in Germany. They gave us a bulk discount on 60 kegs and they fitted 60 kegs on a single pallet. They also have a pretty decent track record with deliverying reconditioned kegs. Most if not all of which had no problems and were cleaned & reconditioned thoroughly. The 43 Euro price is for 4 * 30 kegs.

Problem here is this is a private seller so would need to see how the payment and delivery are secured. :-\

I'd be interested in a couple too, might be more comfortable with the german crowd, but if he's legit and we clarify what's included etc, then it's all good :)

Id be interested in 1-3 but probably not from this buyer.
just looking at it now for 30 its 50 euro a piece for 120 its 43 euro a piece and delivery is not included and at his place "in  poland" not Clare as the add would suggest. The lads from Germany we know give us spare O rings sanatiser etc and do a very good job with the kegs it was 55 euro with shipping if i rember right which is probably a bit better price with everything included

Hi Folks
Seems a few of us have concerns over the buyer and tbh the ad is quite vague and secure payment would be an issue. Does anyone the contact details for this company in Germany that there was a group buy for before? Would be far better as we could ensure secure payment and delivery?

If anyone has the contact details post them here and I'll fire them off an email and see if they can sort us out.

Would the guys on jimsbeerkit have ordered from "Tomasz in Poland" ? If he can be verified then his prices should beat Candirect. I'm sure ive seen his ads on ebay too with Euro prices listed, which may be a bit more favourable.  On the other hand, Candirect will supply any other bits needed.

Put me down for 2 Cornys and 2 pairs of disconnects.

I would reserve judgement on the prices till you see the cost of the transport from Poland. His pallet size takes half the number of kegs from those from can direct. I would be asking him to give some of reduction on the unit cost also.

Yeah from doing this the last time, I'd say:
1. Put down interest in a list
2. Once some order size is in place, price your suppliers. Watch out for transport costs, vat and other sundries when comparing.

For smaller orders, alealex has decent prices, otherwise Can Direct, while being a bit slow, give an excellent service. When they give us kegs, they have new lids, are fully cleaned and also come with a spare set of o rings and a cleaning sachet. Last time we threw in taps etc into the order and it was handy enough, as they did up all the JG fittings etc to match. Also they apply a 5-10% discount, I'll need to check that again and get back to you.

I'll send you a pm later this morning with supplier details for can direct. Later in, I can write an introductory email if you want to pursue the order with them.

As for the list.
1. Molc - 2 kegs, 1 gas in dc, 1 beer out dc, 1 stout tap (if can direct, I'll get a part number later)

2. Mrmeindl 2 * kegs with associated jg fittings
3. Acott - 1 Keg, 1 gas in dc, 1 beer out dc (Possibly 2)

Before the list gets any bigger I think somebody (other than Molc :) should step up & agree to take ownership of this.

Hi Folks
Molc was kind enough to forward the details, so I've fired off an email and asked if we can get the same or a similar deal. Once they get back to me I'll set up a doodle poll for people to put their names down if you want to get one.

Also we will then have to organise delivery etc, I'm new to the club so I'm not sure how you sorted it last time?

Hehe Shanna is a great lad for one lad, but yeah, give him a bit of a break on the ould deliveries for a while ;)

Just needs someone to be there on the day of the delivery and then be a main pickup center for the club representatives to do pickups.

Exactly, it's not rocket science, one just needs somewhere secure & large enough to store the kegs. Having direct access to the space for a delivery truck would help also so there is only a short distance to haul the kegs.

I could store about 30 in my place any more would not be under lock and key so I couldn't take responsibility for any more. I could still be an option if numbers were higher and the difference was picked up on the day.

Hi Shaun,

It's a big commitment in terms of time especially if you use candirect as they are pretty laid back in terms of comma. If you use them always cc yourself on emails so that you reuse the last email to resend the same request. As for 2nd post sometimes it's the energy of new blood that is needed to organise this stuff. If you start to get traction on this I would suggest you set an upper limit on numbers with a backup list in case of drop outs. When it comes to collection of cash you should be able to use the club bank account & PayPal to gather the necessary funds. Watch out for can direct & how they appply vat & transport charges. Don't pay them anything till you have received a pro forma invoice from them. I created a Google drive spreadsheet originally to track the details of the order & I paused it on to mild. I would get him to send you the details and reuse this. If I can help 're queries give me a shout and best of luck. One last thing irrespective of where you are put the onus on clubs around the country to collect & distribute the items , it will make your life much easier.

Hi Shanna
Thanks for all the info and if we can use the clubs paypal that would be fantastic. If we can sort storage I don't mind being the back and forth guy.
I'll wait until they email me back, once I know if they can supply us. I'll set a limit on keg numbers (say one pallet) and put an online spreadsheet or if you could send me your old one that would be fantastic.

As the can of worms, a baptism of fire never hurt anyone!

If you're going kegging, its always worth having the second keg.

Barbecue and The Keg runs out.
A seal goes on one, you have a spare.
Going to all this effort and only one shiny...
etc.

I have 5 right now and what I find is I don't have enough for the big beers or slow drinkers like cider or a RIS. I like the idea of having a session beer, a strong beer and a stout on tap all the time.

And in an ideal world you'd have a keg just for sanitizer too.

Is this to buy from Germany? Can't quite make it out.

If so, I'd be interested in a metric fuck ton of them. Yous can store them at the brewery in Belfast if you want no bother. I wouldn't have time to organise this though.

Yes I've contacted can direct but still no word from them yet. Hoping to get a deal going when they mail back as the donedeal post looks dodgy.

Shaun
My old spreadsheet! It's driven my a lot of forumae, so you'll need to take your own copy and edit away. The prices automatically update from the suppliers tab.

I see from looking at the last group buy that none of our affiliates were able to step up and offer a good discount on kegs the last time, but wonder if it might be worth asking again?

All the affiliates sell brand new kegs, the ones from can direct are reconditioned, hence the reason they're 50 euro cheaper.

Ok...but if Candirect can get there hands on reconditioned kegs why cant they do it also? I am sure they have alot of contacts in the trade?! Seems strange that they wouldn't try. We all put a lot of business their way.

I can send an introductory mail Wednesday with you cc'd if they're not responding. It can be a bit hit and miss to stir them into action.
One thing that would be good is to get a running tot of everything were ordering. I can put the part numbers against them from the last order in that mail as well, which will just put it on a plate for can direct.

Could someone give a very quick rundown of whats what for keg newbies?  Two main questions I have are:

- What kit is needed for basic minimum setup?
- What capacity are the kegs?

Hi there,

Took part in the last keg group buy, thanks Molc!
Happy to take over English-Polish correspondence if you're still interested in dealings with that Tomasz fella.

In the end he is looking for business and might consider putting the whole deal through Ebay/Paypal whatever Escrow we might come up with.

No previous dealing experience with the one in question but wouldn't be surprised if he was the one who is selling loads of these kegs through "Polish Ebay" = allegro.pl

Just my 2c.

Cheers,
B.

We got 4 meters each last time for 2 taps and it was just enough for a medium run to a line cooler and back for me. Also someone will need to check my totals, as I just did them up quickly and didn't go over it with a fine tooth comb :)

Folks
STILL no response from can direct, they're really starting to get on my nerves. I don't think they're going to respond even after Molc was kind enough to fire off a second email and cc me for introductions.

Does anyone else know another supplier and I'll contact them. As we clearly have enough interest for another business to be interested in helping us out?
Does anyone know if I contacted some of the affiliates would they be able to help us get reconditioned kegs?
Shaun

You should visit Read the previous posts in the thread and also continue with the general consensus of adding to shopping list. It's class, other people really like when you visit there first.

Its in the public area, so I guess HBC spotted it and jumped in.
Looks like a good deal so everyone is happy!

Well we've always wanted to bring the business to the homebrew companies if they could meet the demand, so assuming the quality control is good, it's win win.

Ok, someone needs to lock this thread. The group buy is not happening, as the homebrew company is capable of supplying the demand at a a better price. Don't add to this list, as nothing will happen with it :)

You sure can, it just needs someone to step up and organise it. If the number is small enough, Ale Alex is probably a good bet there.

Funny thing is that Can Direct finally came back with a details email with prices etc but only after I sent an email on top of the multiple emails that Shaun sent. If there is no interest in the kegs from them somebody might be interested in organising the taps, regulators, john guest fittings and tubing.

Quote
Attention please: Email has been sent to both:
- Mr Declan O´ Shanahan and to
- Mr Shaun Smith!

Dear Declan, dear Shaun,

thank you very much for your email.

What we can offer regarding kegs 18 L series ball lock system is:

The standard price for a
- 18 L keg jolly series, good shape and generally overhauled with ne valves, seals and a new lid with relif valve is 59,90 EUR including 19 % VAT (which is 50,33 EUR without VAT).

Prices for bulk buy:

The daily shipping quote by DHL is 235,00 EUR + 19 % VAT to Derry/Northern Ireland for 1 pallet (60 kegs).

The prices for reconditioned kegs 18 L jolly series in good shape and condition with new valves and a new lid with relief valve is 48,00 euros each + 19 % VAT today.

The prices for reconditioned kegs 18 L jolly series in good shape and condition with new valves and a lid without relief valve (only 2 burst devices) is 43,00 euros each + 19 % VAT today.

So if you take one pallet it will be for 60 kegs NC jolly with new valves:

2880,00 EUR (including new lid with relief valve) or

2580,00 EUR (including used lid with 2 burst devices)

+ 235,00 EUR for shipping

+ 19 % VAT for all.

Hope this offer is interesting for you, all kegs are checked whether there are totally proof.

The prices we have given to you here are special prices, but we can add for you a set of 2 new valve o-rings, 2 new tube o-rings and one new o-ring for the lid for each keg for free, so you can change the sealings after some time without extra costs. Is this offer o.k. for you?

For some other articles and equipment we can give you a discount of 10 % as in the past, but meanwhile we are not able any more to give you 10 % rebate for the kegs, but we can give you the special bulk buy price for them and the spare parts for free (o-rings).

For future reference, if anyone wants to lock up a thread like this it's generally easiest to use the 'report this post' option and in the description put the request.
Those reports go directly to the moderators :)
