What Friday evening works best for folks for another meet in the Hudson- I'd say later in the month, to give time for our group brew to be ready. But whatever works for most
Sounds good - later would suit us well.
Aye. Ditto for the 24th. That'll give us over 2 weeks' bottle conditioning.
-Barry
sweet I'll get in touch with hudson and check the date then
barry, i pmd you
chris, do you mean later in the evening would suit you well?
Sorry, meant later in the month.
sweet. 24th is confirmed then!
what time shall I say?
We will probably get the bus so wouldn't be there until 8ish. Would that be too late? It doesn't matter if we miss the first part.
nah- we can start whenever. 8 ok?
Yeah that would suit us well. Thanks.
Looks like ill have to miss this one too. I've a wedding to go to on the 24th. 3rd time lucky for June
Hope it goes well
Ah shame - last year nearly all our weekends were taken up by weddings!
Hopefully next time.
I will make a point of getting to the next one
By hook or by crook
I hope to get to this one
Hi Folks
Im afraid I cant make the 24th, got exams in Scotland that weekend.
Looking forward to the next event though.
Cheers

Nice one stan - should be good!
Pity you can't make it Andy, did you get your extract brew on the go?
Finally got myself registered after meeting a few of you at the open day! Looking forward to the 24th now
Cool man - see you there!
Alight lads, 24th at 20:00 is grand for me - got a nice porter to bring and some more wheat beer. Might also hit you all with some more wine - got about 50 bottles I need to get through! :P
50 bottles Iain?
You making up for all that abstinence last Good Friday? :)
-Barry
I spent about two years going mental and making wine out of everything I could find! So now it needs to get drunk and I rarely would crack open a bottle. So I'm afraid you lads'll have to give me a hand!
Bottled some lemon wine there last week and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it... ;D
It'll be good to get to taste some of them and encourage some non-beer drinkers!
Yeah, perhaps! The ginger wine is nice and sweet, and I've got some dandelion and apple wine aswell. So I'll bring a wee selection.
I've got a wedding the next day though, which will be very heavy and boozy, so I can't get too hammered.
Chris and I live in a world of perpetual frustration whereby real ale events are inevitably ruined by weddings and stags! Notable ruinings over the past year or two include the Hilden Ale Festival and the GB Beer Festival in Belfast.
Sometimes I wish I had no friends and could be left to become an alcoholic in peace.
I feel your pain lads. I used to get that a lot. Thankfully I'm at the age now where most of my mates are married off, so weddings are down from 8 or 9 a year to 1 or 2 a year. I have, however, recently done best man for one of my mates for the second time ??? So you're never totally out of the woods.
On the Saturday after the next Friday meet we're supposed to be heading out for dinner with friends of the wife. It only dawned on me today that that's the night of the Champions' League final >:( Then again, as a Liverpool fan it means feck all to me these days anyway :(

Ah shame Andy - I could send you some bottles from the demo brew if you'd like.

Thanks that would be great, I'm in the process of moving to Jordanstown so will be a lot closer than Ballymena.
Has a quality control sample of the brew been taken ;)
Cheers
Andy
Only at bottling but might 'test' one tonight and see how carbonation is coming on! ;)
D'you wanna pm me your address and I'll and get that sorted next week?
cant wait to try the comparisons. i bottled mine asap- they were bottled a wk after they were brewed. just moved them from carbing to cooling. b interesting to c difference in hop profile too
Opened my first bottle this evening. What can I say? The sun was out so out with it came the bbq. Only moved the bottles to the fridge last night after 2 weeks in secondary. I can see what you mean about the bitterness, Chris and Matthew. But definitely not unpleasant. At the risk of sounding like a ponce, there's a really nice beer trying to get out. See what another week's cold conditioning does.
- Barry
Gave one a shot last night too - the bitterness has mellowed a lot. It now has a nice initial sharpness and a lovely aromatic hoppy finish. It's a great colour - we might reuse the grain bill for some single hop beers we're planning. It's also surprisingly carbonated after only 12 days in the bottle.
The comparison will be really interesting - we'd previously used WLP-550 in an IPA and I think a lot of the yeast flavour was masked by the hops.
chris, if transport allows, can you bring those demijohns? what size are they again?
Yep no problem - they're beside the front door so I'll remember them this time ::).
They're 1l swing top, clear glass bottles. Is that what you wanted?
yeah- sweet thx!
Nice one man - cool!
We've about another 7 if anyone else wants some, great for making liqueurs!
i'm thinking of going for a pint at the sunflower before the hudson. it's just round the corner. been wanting to go for a while. should have a couple of casks on, apparently
anyone interested? 730?
I'd be up for that. Haven't been to the Sunflower before.
Cheers,
-Barry
Not sure if our bus will get us in on time, but we'll give you a shout when we're in Belfast.
Wish I could make it lads but no can do, will probably be after summer is over before I have a weekend off ffs..
Anyways, have fun!!
Seems my Black IPA isn't quite ready for tonight...have a bottle of the Doggy Style clone we did to share around though.
Looking forward to it!
sweet! just a reminded to all that we're not in the back, as usual. we're upstairs this time- cant rem which floor!
I think you'd said the top, top floor earlier in the week
Yep top floor iirc - doggy style clone sounds good! Will be interesting to compare the demo pale ale to it.
Great night lads - the samples were amazers.Bill_00's doggy style and Bazza's Timothy Taylor landlord were lovely! Really enjoyed the brew demo beers - I'm not sure there was much difference in the hoppyness but the differences in the yeasts was really interesting!
Yeah. Great night. Seemed to go by in a flash (or a drunken blur?? )
The difference in the 3 brews really did underline the fact that yeast is the single most influencing factor in a beer.
+1 on the Doggy Style. That was excellent (felt a little weird typing that particular sentence).
A few good ideas were kicked around for the next meet too. Looking forward.
Cheers,
- Barry
Had a great time, and nice to get that awkward "I barely know you" stage out of the way!
Glad you guys liked the Doggy Style Clone, will hoke out the recipe book and share.
Gutted I didn't get a chance to bring that Black IPA along, opened the first on Saturday there, knowing it's probably still a wee bit young...it's pretty damn good already!
Looking forward to bringing it and this Summer Ale along to the next meet.
The sample brews really did show just what a difference yeast can make to the same recipe, was definitely educational.
And it was easy to see why that Galaxy IPA did so well in the competition!
Finally got that recipe!

However I think we used an American Ale yeast...I think WLP even did Flying Dog's own strain at one stage, so you may be able to track it down
