No bother will try to take some this eve i wrote something up on be"£ir a while back, I 'll pm you the link , not a lot has changed (the deepfat fryer has been replaced by a currys kettle !)
How was the meet? Was the barrel stout tasted/discussed?
i was only there for a bit but i got a sip of the stout and it tasted good, pretty whiskey flavour but really full, enda guestimated around october for bottling/kegging.
Its defo mellowed & become a better beer from the first tasting. Another few months & it'll be great.
Good stuff. Maybe this should be in another thread, but I'm wondering how we're going to carbonate bottles of it. Beergun-style from a corny or fresh yeast and hope that the abv isn't too high?
nosey neighbour stuff but were you getting any oak flavour? as we had planned next year! and 1st sample coming out in October.
No oak. All whiskey. The whiskey has defo mellowed since the last sample two months ago.
Is it the idea the whiskey flavour will eventually diminish to just a hint to be replaced by oaky?
First taste was 2 months ago? Then again just now? Next taste another 2-3 months? Mid to end November?
If it's ready for Christmas that'd be great but don't want to rush it at expense of perfection. It does seem like a Christmas drink tho, can't really see any opportunity to drink a 10%stout other than those lazy nothing days over the Christmas!
Thanks for feedback lads we think based on numerous commercial samples we have had it should be ris complex profile, followed by oak and finishing with smooth whiskey on the end.
we were think Christmas alright, 2015!
Have a control so we will see how it develops.
TT
Its already a very good beer so we've very high hopes for it.
The taste I had was absoluteness gorgeous. Loads of dark and smokey malt. Deep body. Warmed by the whiskey. No oak I could discern, I can only imagine how good it'll be in a year.
'i can only imagine...' indeed - i dont think any of us can wait till after xmas to pop that shit :) Maybe hold on to a few bottles for a while but thats my pressies for everyone bought...
