Was in Bradley's in Cork earlier and picked up a Brewdog Russian Imperial stout. Lovely stuff. What are peoples recommendations out there (excluding barrel projects!) for imperial stouts? Colder nights, need to be drinking something warm!
Porterhouse Celebration is excellent and should be pretty widely available in offies.

I love Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout. Had it on the bjcp course. Second favourite beer!
Mikkeller - George!
Mikkeller - Beer Geek Breakfast
Wild Beer Company - Wildebeest
Rogue - Double Chocolate Stout
Porterhouse - Barrel Aged Celebration Stout
For me it has to be the Nogne imperial stout. Amazing stuff.
Great Divide - Oak Aged Yeti is gorgeous.
Thornbridge Saint Petersburg is pretty great!! Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout is also fantastic.
Barrel aged is 11% dude.
Still miles better than this weak offering from Sierra too.

TT
It's not an imperial stout (13F) though, it's more of a foreign extra (13D).

Imperial stout really needs to be 8% or above, and ideally even stronger.
The whiskey version was about 11%. The original version was 10% I think (I still have a bottle of it 8))
Yeah just over 7,that's about my limit and I love the stuff.

Normal Celebration is 7%. Barrel aged is 11%. Both world class.
Where's that pic taken Alex?? Is that a board in the background with the Thrasher sticker??
Den Molen's Rasputin with Bruchladich whiskey malt was fantastic. Brilliant brewery for imperial stouts. Drinkstore used to carry some of their beers but unfortunately they don't seem to any more.
Courage RIS is the original and it's really fantastic as well. Not exactly a lite beer though.
That's me mates laptop. I prefer his earlier stickers.
This was rereleased last year. Wish I had kept a bottle. Drank one it was devine. Apparentley gets deviner up to ten years after.

Is that the Courage one you mean?
I bought two bottles of it. Still have two bottles of it 8)
Aye, woops. Meant to mention. It was lovely. Being a bit more patient with the Leann Folláin barrel aged. Actually put that and and few others under the stairs in my ma's, hopefully I'll forget about them. Better be careful at Christmas.
I thought the barrel aged Leann Follain was awful. And I love the regular Leann Follain
Ginormous pics of my original Porterhouse Celebration Stout (complete with paint splattered on the bottle ;D)

Well I've bought it now! It can only improve with age. Dido on the regular leann folláin
Not to come off all BJCP, but would Leann Folainn not be an export stout more than a RIS?

See you used just like beer now you've gone and broke it.

I had barrel aged LF in the RDS in 2012 and thought it was really good.

Just saw that its a different barrel used this year
QuoteFollowing the success of our first edition where we aged in American bourbon barrels, we decided to age our Leann Folláin in this second Edition for at least 90 days in Irish Whiskey barrels and condition in bottle to provide a gentle carbonation.

:D That's while I'll probably never do the BJCP, but much as I like LF I'd expect something with more wallop from a RIS.
Incidentally, I saw a Fullers RIS in Bradleys this evening - at 10.7% I'd say it has a fair wallop! Anyone tried it?
Is that part of the Past Masters range?
No, it was in a cardboard box like the vintage ale.
very posh
yep, I forgot to mention the box is purple.
I bought a bottle of that fullers ris to give as a present last weekend....and gave the present >:(first tome I bought a beer present for someone without having to make a trip back to buy the same present again. So all I can say, nice colour box.
I guess you don't want to hear about the one Sierra Nevada released a few years back for their anniversary, that was yum. Also the barrel aged version of celebration. But of the ones that you should be able to get I'd go for De Molen or Nogne-O!
TRied brewdog oldword imperial stout. Twas very agreeable
I dropped a bottle of Black Albert earlier today ???
Didn't break though 8)
Superb imperial stout
Where did you get your hands on that?
Bruges
Got one this year. Have a 2010 bottle as well (might be 2009 actually). Bottle of Cuvee Delphine (2009) as well 8)

Pretty sure I saw a few bottles of the Courage stout in Redmonds the other day

+1 and +1.
Both fantastic. 8)
Look who came to visit me tonight.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/17/8e4a4aqy.jpg)
Just cracked open an 8 degrees Russian imperial stout. It's awful :( like a really poor homebrew
Not sure what it says about my home-brew ??? but I thought this was fairly drinkable. I did prefer the other two in the series though.
I tried out the Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout, that isn't so good. It's very heavily autolysed, the primary flavour is heavy bovril, everything else underlies that and it makes for a not so good beer. I suggest that they underpitched their 10% beer, but it's not good in any case.
odd, what year/batch was it. one of my favourate stouts, usually has a nice complex malt profile

No idea to be honest, bottle is gone for recycling. In any case it was like liquid roast beef.

You considering imperial oatmeal-coffee stouts, too? Founders Breakfast is one of the best.
And I'm surprised to see no love for Goose Island Bourbon County, though I think they overdo the barrel.
Both at better offies around Dublin, at least.
