Title: The MOTHER of all Kegerators
Post by: Tom on August 13, 2014, 08:51:04 PM
SWMBO's sister got married a couple of weeks ago, and I had the nightmare pleasurable job of providing 150 guests with booze!

In short:
1 shed
3 bales of 2" High Density polystyrene & some hardboard for floor
Pallet Chiller (loan... must give that back - worked on a 13a extension cable)
1 typical CO2 dispense system
Maxichiller (loan... must give that back too...)
Cobra beer line (in my case 22mm copper pipe insulation with a couple of 3/8"s through it)
10 x 50l kegs of homebrew

I was brewing solid for most of June. The stuff went into kegs (loaned for various sources and now given back), and then into the chilled shed. The pallet chiller worked great until the heatwave, which was the week before the wedding. It got down to 4oc no problem in the shed while ambient temp was around 20oc. During the heatwave the shed barely got below 24oc, which as you can imagine wasn't great for the beer. In the end I found a maxichiller in a shed in Leitrim, so that helped bring the booze into a serveable temp at the tap.

Beer was 4 kegs of red, 4 of gold, 1 GB cider and a load of elderflower champagne. Less than two kegs of red left by the end of it. Very happy to see people queueing for my booze! Egotrip.

And finally, the pics.

The completed kegerator. Glowing thing is pallet chiller, the rest is standard.

The bar in action.
Sorry for the quality. All take on phone, in various states of inebriation.

Anyone going down the wedding route and want any tips, feel free to ask.

You're up there with Brenmurph and co. for emptying kegs of homebrew in the shortest time possible :P Well done.

Looks good Tom. Would you consider doing a write up on what's involved in kegging and carbing beer with the larger kegs.

Cheers for your kind words! Couldn't have done it without the
N H C, it goes without saying, so thanks to everyone who gave, loaned
and sold me stuff, as well as all the advice.

Aye, I'll write something up for sure. Would be a pleasure.
