Date for the 1st meeting:
Option 1: Sunday 09th Nov - Early afternoon
votes: 3
Option 2: Tuesday 11th Nov - 7.30pm - 9.30pm
votes: 6
We will host the first leg of the nationals this Feb. We need lots of local judges and stewards.
Is anyone interested in a beer judging crash course + off flavour session? It's something we could do over a course of maybe Sat/Sun mornings or maybe a weekday night.
Post your name if interested and we can iron out logistics later. No prior experience necessary so don't be shy.

Would a Tue eve 7pm to 9pm suit? or Sunday morning 11am to 1pm suit best?
Not sure of times/durations etc. Just putting out feelers.
Tuesday evenings are good for me.
I could do Tuesdays!
I'd like to give it ago if ye don't mind an ex cork sheep stealer on board. Have small kids though so weekends would be best. I know that will interfere with jay dees surfing >:D
I work shift so will know if I can do it when the date is set.
Tuesdays are good for me
of the 2 Sunday is probably easier for me , tbh I am a bit stuck as I am out in the sticks so rely on public transport really

Someone might be able to pick you up along the way?
Cycle?
You could drive. The tasting meets are just that - small tasters (150ml or so each) with lots of talking & writing. If we discuss, taste & score 4 beers thats a bit over a pint of beer spread over two hours or more. So no need to be getting lifts or taxis. Its not a piss up but if you want to have a few after then dont drive obviously.
For the first meet we can all get to know each other (lots of new people - welcome folks!). We can discuss the upcoming competition, styles that we may be judging & get familiar with the style guide & score sheets. We can also decide on a day & time to meet as we cant put everything to a poll as we'll get nothing done. Dont stress if you cant make a meeting. Most of this can be done at home with a bottle of beer, bjcp app on your phone & a score sheet. I would urge everyone to make the off flavour session though (date tbc)
Poll at the top to decide the first meeting date.
Believe me you don't drink the whole of the glass.
The smell and then 2 or 3 sips is enough.

Can people who are interested in this please vote on the pole above. Clock is ticking & there is lots of prep work for me to do & have to get a venue sorted. It'd be great If we can decide in the date by tomorrow. Thanks.
ps. You can drive to & from this as ye will drink feck all.
Sorry, I use tapatalk to access this forum and it's not showing up any poll
You will have to log in to the forum the normal way if you want to vote in the poll.
Ok, will do that tomorrow when I get home from work, cheers
Will leave the poll open until 11pm tonight. Majority vote decides it. Thanks.
So the first meet will be this Tue 11th. 7.30pm at the Cottage Bar in Lower Salthill. All welcome. We can discuss the categories we've been given & get everyone familiar with a pencil & a score sheet :) There wont be much drinking done (unless you want to) so driving to & from the meet is possible.
If you can make it this Tue stick your name below:

Should we bring anything?
Examples of not-so-perfect beers?
No need to bring samples yet. If ye want to look over BJCP 10A & 10B (we may not get through them but good to have a glance at them anyway). Il bring the beers. :)
Ive bought most of the beers for the categories just there. Still have a few more to get but have most now. This is what ye have to look forward to:

Il will need to be reimbursed from everyone obviously but it wont be a lot once its spread between everyone.
Bump for tonight. 7.30pm at the Cottage, Lower Salthill.
Hey Tom
Running late but should make it by 8
Brewing with style podcast look for the one with Gordon Strong, bjcp president.

Sorry for missing this - took a "brief" work call that went on and on for a couple of hours so it was over by the time I was off the call.
Will not miss the next one
We'll be going again this Tuesday evening, hopefully we'll get another 4 beers done!

Hi Kev,
Is it still the Cottage at 7:30?
Was just chatting with Tom. Same time and place. Cottage at 7:30
See you there
And again tonight confirmed @7:30! See you there!
We will take a break next week & return the following week Tue 9th Dec. Hope ye can make it.
Any interest in this starting up again? Maybe instead of picking a particular style you can bring a homebrew sample & we can taste & write score sheets for it. Discuss the good & bad points of each beer & feedback on how to brew it better.
Midweek night every three weeks maybe? 7.30pm - 10pm. If there is interest Il organise another venue as Cottage bar is closed now.
Yep I'd be interested in restarting it. What you're describing sounds like some kind of organised homebrew meeting! Combine them?
Definitely interested. Combining with homebrew tasting could work. Would it be too much work to brew for the style being tasted?
It appears I'll be off tuesday nights for the near future, so if that suits I'll be well up for it! Won't be brewing for it specifically though!
It'd take some forward planning to brew specifically for it but would be good to bust people out of their IPA rut & brew lots of different styles.
Lets say May meet for the first one of these planned brewed tastings? Plus we could taste other styles people bring also obviously.
Someone pick a style there thats easy turnover by mid may.
I have a Saison on which should be ready by May and a... (ahem) IPA :P just bottled.
My next possible brew day would be mid April at the earliest. I was sort of planning a English pale, I might change away from that again.

Gueze?
On a related note... What we doing with the lambic!? Can we check in on it sometime?
If we're going for mid May should we not be thinking of the Summer session comp?
I know it's anti-bjcp but it's always an interesting one!

Sure it's only in the barrel a year or so!
What we refill it with?

Hmmmm?
I just saw this recent post.
I'll try to brew something this week and have it bottled for then.
I'm making an american amber today so hopefully it'll turn out alright for the session. It'll only be a couple/few weeks in the bottle.
It'll be next weekend earliest before I can brew anything, Will do a SMASH I was planning anyway and keep it <4%, it can enter the comp if it's ready, if not it can enter my belly.
Mine turned out a lovely colour but it's definitely not amber. I'll have to rename/restyle it on the day when i taste it!
How does Friday 29th appeal to people?
