Kenridge Classic Trilogy red wine kit review

This kit was a bit of a milestone for me. I've made a few white wine kits that tasted decent, but unfortunately I rarely drink white! Red is my tipple - and if I could get a decent drop of red from a kit I'd be well sorted! I decided to do a premium kit as I felt this was the best chance to get something I'd recognise as red wine, and went with the Kenridge Classic Trilogy kit - a Bordeaux blend of Cab Sav, Merlot and Cab Franc. I won't bore you with the details, but the kit was made as per the instructions but with a longer secondary, being eventually bottled after nearly two months. Red wine kits are supposed to be best after a few months aging, so I decided to delay my report here until the wine had three months in the bottle.

And the verdict?

A huge disappointment!

OK, it's recognisable as red wine - but a watery and insipid red wine which would barely make the grade as the €4 special in Tesco. It was clear, and made fine mulled wine but, all in all, my first and last step into the world of homemade red wine!

Oh well......
