Lest people get the wrong impression, Diacetyl is considered a fault in Lagers but can be a desireable taste profile in some ales and stouts, and can be difficult enough to get bang on, you have to watch the fermentation profile like a hawk and get the green beer off the yeast at precisely the right moment. It's a big difference between doing it deliberately and under control and doing it by accident due to poor brewing practices
