Post by: Paul86 on April 08, 2020, 05:58:49 PM
Hi....

I have 4kg of munich malt sitting in my shed not doing much.

I have about 1kg of pale malt, 1kg of carapils and a few roasted and crystal types.

Any ideas for a munich smash??.

Hops wise i have some saaz, mittelfruh perle cascade bravo magnum then a little columbus and chinook.

Yeast stains wise ive  belgian, english stout, safale05, and a east coast neipa.

Trying not to order any additional if possible

Any suggestions/ideas welcome

I wouldn't do a munich smash anyway. Make use of what you have left.

Split the grain, do two identical malt bills:
2kg munich
0.5kg pale
0.5kg carapils
Maybe use the roasted / crystal to colour it how you fancy.

Batch 1 - S05 yeast - treat it like a lager, saaz for the boil and make a cascade tea for bottle/kegging
Batch 2 - neipa yeast - treat it like an ale, magnum and cascade for the boil and make a cascade tea for bottle/kegging.

Remember to reduce your water volume due to reduced grain bill, to hit whatever ABV you like.
