Hi guys,

The brew day went very well, especially as it was my first ever doing all-grain. We brewed "Oatmeal cookie ale" in the style of a Northern english brown ale. The recipe was as follows:

In the mash tun:
2.5kg   Pale ale malt (from MCI)
1.5kg   Amber malt (home roasted)
1.0kg   Toasted Oats (Flahavans organic)
0.8kg   Brown malt (home roasted)
20L      Water
Mash temp was 68C at the start. Mash time was 60 mins.
Sparged with 26L of water at ~76C
Smelled fantastic!  :)

In the boiler:
250g   Dark Muscovado sugar, at start of boil
30g     Northdown leaf hops boiled for 60 mins
30g     East kent goldings pellet hops boiled for 10 mins

In the fermenter:
Got 30L of wort, with OG=1.042 at temperature of 25C (Converts to 1.044 at 20C)
Had to throw away some wort to make enough head-space in the top of the fermenter. I couldn't face doing this myself!
Ended with 27L of wort.
Pitched ~1L of live yeast
Expected FG is about 1.008, giving a very sessionable 4.7% ABV.

I'll do up a more complete write-up over the next few days. Particularly covering the roasting of the amber and brown malts.
Thanks to all the lads who helped out on the day. Special mention to Garry for making an extra spin home to pick up his malt mill. Thanks of course to the Fran Well and head brewer Pete for hosting the whole day. Bring on the next brew-day!!
