BrewCon 2016

After the success of last year's first homebrew conference, aimed solely at all levels of brewers in Ireland, BrewCon 2016 is back and will be held on Saturday, 23rd April in Dublin, at the historic Smock Alley Theatre.

We have once again gathered a wide mix of industry experts and a sell out crowd is expected to hear from all aspects of the brewing community, including professional brewers and highly qualified brewing scientists.

One of the premier aims of the National Homebrew Club is education of our brewers, with this is in mind the conference is aimed at furthering their education by putting together a day of talks and discussions in a friendly and informative atmosphere.

This year, BrewCon 2016's keynote speaker will be Gordon Strong, President of the BJCP.

Gordon Strong is an award-winning homebrewer, beer judge and author. He is the author of Brewing Better Beer: Master Lessons for Advanced Homebrewers, and Modern Homebrew Recipes. He is the only three-time winner of the coveted Ninkasi Award.

Among the notable line-up of qualified and well respected speakers from the industry, will be:

Dr. Bill Simpson        Cara Technologies - specialist in Beer Flavour Standards
Chip Walton              Summit Brewing / Chop & Brew blog, podcast and webshow
Dr. Gearoid Cahill     Alltech - Dublin Beer Cup Head Judge
   Rory Sheils                Ex Master Brewer
Dr. Peter Dudley       Water Treatment Specialist
   Brendan Murphy        Award Winning Homebrewer

A great Q&A session:

Former NHC President Rossa O'Neill, is on the couch with Alex Lawes, Head Brewer, Rye River Brewing Company, discussing his journey from homebrewer to professional and fielding questions from the audience.

Some of the highlights at BrewCon 2016 will include:

•   Speciality Ingredients – Chip Walton from Chop & Brew will discuss how to get the best out of speciality additions such as spices and fruits.
•   Water Treatment – How to tweak your water profiles to match distinct beer styles
•   Lunch, sample beers & refreshments
•   Drinks reception – showcasing some of Ireland's finest commercial and homebrewed beers.

The infamous BrewCon Swag Bag returns – including vouchers for your favourite homebrew retailers, commemorative BrewCon 2016 materials (pen, pad, etc) to keep all your notes in one place, an issue of "Zymurgy" Homebrew magazine (with some great recipes, news, etc), and even more extras on the day....

Speaking at the launch, Thomas Carroll, President of the NHC said:
"Building on the success of last year's phenomenally well received conference; we have once again focused on offering Irish brewers a truly educational as well as enjoyable experience."

About
The National Homebrew Club (NHC) is Ireland's single biggest collective of homebrewers, with representation in all four provinces.

Established in 2011, it was founded to fulfil the needs of homebrewers in Ireland.

The NHC has gone from strength to strength, currently with over 350 full members and 1,000 associates of the Club. It is a non-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers from all four corners of the island and it has put home brewing back on the map in Ireland.

The club caters specifically for needs of home brewers, providing advice through a local club network and an active online forum.

The NHC's biggest event every year is the National Brewing Championships, with over 400 entries in 2016; judging beer to international standards, by 60 qualified BJCP judges and commercial brewers.

The primary role of the NHC is to improve the standard of home brewed beer and support those parties that want to make their hobby commercial. Over 12 homebrewers, who have come from within our ranks, have taken the plunge to go commercial in the last number of years.

It is active in promoting a range of activities include brewing demonstrations, organising training (BJCP), Little Talks sessions, managing & supporting local and national competitions.
