Title: Lagering with an Electrical Outage
Post by: Qs on April 06, 2017, 10:31:51 AM
I had planned to make my first lager tomorrow but I've just found out ESB are doing work on our area the Friday after so I'll be without electricity for approx 6 hours, possibly more. I use a standard larder fridge as a ferm chamber. Should I wait until after this break to make the lager or will it be ok?

You'll be fine I'm sure, the thermal mass of the beer itself will ensure it'll stay cool for 6 hours, and the fridge is well insulated too... Also, the outage will probably be less than 6hrs, Likely just the ESB giving a worst case scenario should they need it.

Just reading the quick lagering method now, seems I should be ok since I have a week before the outage.

Worst case get some of those cooler cubes that stay cool and chuck it into the fridge but you should be okay without it
