19, 23 or 26 litres?

Hey everyone!

I'm only after doing my second ever extract brew and the instructions said it should be topped up to 26 litres! The last one I did said 23 litres and online says 19 litres in most examples online. The last one I followed the instructions and did 23 litres and it turned out fine so I just did 23 again for this one.

For future reference what volume should I top up to?

Thanks in advance!

I would think this is recipe specific. If it was me I would just follow the instructions that came with the particular extract kit.

Yeah I guess following the recipe is the smart way to do it haha. I thought that using the same vol of LME should require the same dilution, no?

Yeah it's kinda hard to guess, it depends on a number of factors, the evaporation rate of the kettle, the hop soakaway and trub layer alone. And plenty more I'm sure, my last beer I put 24L into the kettle, 21L into the fermenter and then 19Linto the keg and 1L into bottles. I tend to work backwards from the end amount I want and calculate it that way.
