Title: Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate for brewing (healthy yeast growth)
Post by: Shane Phelan on February 02, 2014, 11:15:20 AM
Just wondering if anyone is using zinc sulphate for brewing? I'm investigating it as a possible a (kind of) group buy but the difficulty lies in measuring out the quantities as they are extremely low concentrations.

I was going do what this dude does here (http://brewlikeapro.net/tipsandtechniques.html) and distribute it out, say a 50ml vial [Does 10 batches] of the solution to people. I can get lab grade quantities of this stuff quite easily but its proving a lot more difficult to get food grade versions. I'm thinking that the lab grade stuff is probably fine but I want to be 100% certain before doing it as looking at the MSDS (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/569614/temp/wercsMSDS.pdf) the stuff is actually pretty lethal in high concentrations.

Dried yeast comes with it by default tho right?
100g of youngs yeast nutrient is 1.95
I've also used and continue to use servomyces , wln3200, not cheap!!that goes in the boil, expired yeast in the boil also works I understand.

Yeah the aim would be to provide an alternative for the servomyces which are indeed pricey!

Expired yeast is good enough.
