As promised my winning tropical stout recipe for the brewdog competition. Inspired by recipes of older style porters and stouts heavy in crystal and brown malt.

If anyone wants to share this recipe anywhere else such as reddit/homebrewing feel free to do so but please share as a link of this URL instead of writing it out so that we can get a bit more traffic to our site and it might pick up a few new members too.

Grain:
4.8kg pale ale malt
0.6kg brown malt 150 ebc
0.3kg chocolate malt
0.4kg crystal 158 ebc
0.4kg cara amber 80 ebc
0.2kg crystal 240 ebc
Mash @ 67C

Hops:
@70min any bittering hops for 45 IBU
@15min 20g Hallertauer Mittelfruh

+15g sweet orange peel @5min

Yeast:
Danstar Nottingham fermented at 19C for 2 weeks

Pre boil size 26 Litres boiled for 70 mins down to 21 Litres. OG: 1.074 FG:1.020, efficiency ~ 83%

Happy brewing!

I went for a mixture of magnum,  EKG and hallertauer all for bittering.

I'm going to Edinburgh on Thursday so hopefully it won't have all been drunk by then, we tried the original at the rebel Christmas meet up, and it was very well received.

Labels are lovely too. Hope you got a nice poster for your brewery/bar.

Available to buy online. I'd doubt it'll end up in the Derry Tescos but maybe the Belfast lads might get lucky.

Any interest in a group buy to save on postage?
