@ Brian C
If you'd like to get brewing this weekend,I could loan ya the grains and yeast till ya get your delivery,
And we'd all be brewing within 3 days of each other.

Cahalbrua

Pm'ed colmack to see how he's fixed

@ Cahalbrua
Thanks for the offer Cahal but I won't get a chance this weekend as I am working.
I will do my best to brew next Tue or Wed evening instead.
This will keep them closer together.

Just got the Mash on - ..

Bring it on baby !

If you need yeast (WLP001)  let me know

Jacob

Mash is almost done

- as black as coal - black as the darkest night !

Will_D

Great to hear that guys!
For me Moday is MAsh day!!

As someoneone on another forum mentioned "What are we going to call our cask".

Any ideas?

What was that book set in the middles ages were they used to brew a magical dark bok weissen and mature it in a massive bottemless cask placed over the grave of an Irish hero?
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

nigel_c

Mash is on. Looks great. Smells yum.

Partridge9

Well - just finished up ...

smells lovely -

ended up with 24l (probably lose 1-2 of trub)

but am 100% good for 22l.

My efficency was poor - ended up with 1082 rather than 1090 (63% rather than 68%)

so my beer will be abnout 8%

Those of us still to brew should lower are efficiency. Jacob has already mentioned he's usually a few point short.
I'm going to set my efficiency at around 63 better slightly over than under.
Jacob and nigel can you let us know how you got on efficiency wise.

Partridge9

+1 -

Set your efficiency to 63% is a good call - if you get it stronger - it will help

You might have to add a little brewing sugar if your mashtun is overloaded - 400g is ok

I should have done that to be honest.

Jacob

Was expecting to get lower but not as low. Had to add 0.75kg of muscavado sugar to 'pimp' it back to 1.089.

nigel_c

24L into the bucket. Efficacy was a bit low as well so I added the last 500g of dme from the 3Kg bag i got to bring it up to 1.088. If i had hit my 23L mark i reckon it would have been bang on.

Cahalbrua

Got my mash on,max'ed out my 33 litre mash tun with 9kg grain.i'm going to mash for 1 and a half hours to help efficiency.I've never added sugar to bring up the OG,do ya just check the gravity after boil and keep ajusting.
