did  homemade fish and chips for the first time today. used a btl of Old Speckled Hen in the batter, any other ideas on a different beer to use next time.

just had a can of coke with it as have to drive later but what beer would go well with the above.

last summer was in http://www.roadsidetavern.ie/roadside/asp/page.asp?p=Burren Brewery and had pretty good fish n chips with the red ale used in the batter.

DEMPSEY

I would like an IPA with this, cut through the greasy aspect. :)

I reckon a saison might go nicely with a one-and-one....

Nice and dry which would cut through the grease. Don't forget the mushy peas...

I always recommend a good wheat beer with a fish supper. The carbonation cuts through the fats and creamy tartare very nicely. If not, a decent pilsner or Augustiner Edelstoff.

The idea of using bear in batter is to stretch the flour to make it more crispy, but I think and this is just opinionated me is keep the beer for drinking then use
baking powder and vinegar in the batter , it will remain crispy for ages.
but

Just seen this tonight http://www.amexicancookinireland.com/2013/06/boozy-chipotle-fish-tacos.html
