Was thinking of making this Braggot

  • 5l water 2 kg wildflower honey
  • 1.5 kg light malt extract 2 lemons, sliced
  • 30g Cascade finishing hops
  • 30g Fuggles finishing hops
  • Yeast EC-1118

Can anyone tell me how long to boil and when to add the hops as I have no experience with them?

Hi Donny,
This is a tricky one!

The LME just needs melting and disolving as its sterile

The lemons can just benefit from any temperatures above 70c (then they are pasteurised)

The hops just need about 5 mins at 100C

The biggest question is the honey!!

Expensive honey should not be boiled so I would suggest to add it post boil at about 70C as the cooler is doing its job!

So to sumarise:

LME and water to 100C
Add lemons and hops

Boil 5 mins

Start cooling.

At 70C stop cooling, add honey stir stir and stir some more.

When all disolved continue cooling.

At pitching temp (say 22C) pitch the yeast

Thanks for the info. One last question or two. How long to boil the wort all together? Also do you think I would need a nutrient in here also. I figured that's what the lemon was for but I'm not 100% sure.

Will_D

5 mins boil in total.

Lemon is to add acidity

Use a bit yeast nutrient would be a good idea! (teaspoon per gallon or what it says on the pack)
