Munster Co2 has changed ownership.
They no longer have the old landline number.
If you need a refill call Roy on 086-0664035. Say you're from 'The HomeBrew Club'.
6kg refills are €20
2kg refills are €10
Anything in between will be around €15.
He no longer gives out tanks, but he has one 2kg fire extinguisher left with the diptube removed for €10.
I've been looking for a 2kg tank, might give him a call. My 6kg tank probably needs refilling as well.
It's handy to have a 2kg backup, or for bringing with you to a party etc
thats what I thought too but just spend all my time filling it for the same cost as a 5Kg tank :-
I've gotta stop using it for main carbonation of 2 kegs at a time which I think is my problem tbh
Just noticed this thread, AJ bought out Munster.
Does anyone if the CO2 Roy supplies is food grade or is it mainly just for welding?
Thanks
If you're wondering about Munster CO2, that's what we all use in Cork.
Not sure. Sure ask him.
He might have a spec sheet or something.
Am in the market for a 5kg refill. (am based in tipp. Sorry about interjecting into your club thread. But given Corks, recent beatings of Tipp in multiple codes, i am hoping ye won't mind!)
Where is Roy based in cork? Is it a case of dropping off and collecting another day, or is it done while you wait?

Cant speak since they changed ownership but they always filled for me while I waited.

Thanks lads. Will see when i can get down that direction, and give him a bell.
Is Munster CO2 still in business? I passed there the other day and it looked abandoned. Don't want to go calling someone that's out of business a couple of years. :)
It was in business a few months ago anyway. you might have called at lunch time or something. He shuts up shop.
Thanks. It's still Roy on 086-0664035? He can supply a new bottle?
I think that's the right person. Not been up there in a while.
He does not supply tanks like the previous owner would.
I was up there this morning and got 6kg refill for €30 from Roy, the CO2 bottle is new to
me so he flushed it out in case there was any crap floating about in it. I have another 6kg
bottle arriving tomorrow and will pop up to have it as a back-up. Great to have this facillity
available so close by.
I bought a Sodastream in the meantime because I didn't think anyone in Cork was doing refills. :(
Would you mind asking him tomorrow if he can refill them? And if he can supply 6kg bottles? (Or where I'd get one if he can't.)
He doesn't fill sodastreams. Says it wouldn't pay him to turn the machine on.
Argos replace empty for full for €18

I bought one of these and I refill my SodaStream cylinders from my 5kg cylinder as necessary
https://www.co2supermarket.co.uk/sodastream-cylinder-refill-adapter-p520.html
Remember to put the SodaStream cylinder in the freezer first to chill it down, (I usually leave it overnight) and invert the donor cylinder, so that you are filling the SodaStream with liquid co2 rather than gas. SodaStream are extremely litigious and generally pursue anyone professionally filling their cylinders. You can't buy any filling adaptors anywhere in the states or the close the shops selling them down.

Yikes, it's a bit pricey. Where did you get your 6kg cylinder?
It's not too bad. the cost of three argos refills
Then your cost for sodastream refills drops from €18 each to €2 each forever
Fair point. How much is a 6kg refill. And I'm still not sure where to get a 6kg bottle. :)
I think the bigger CO2 fire extinguishers
have the same thread as the CO2 bottles. If that is the case they'd be way easier to source
and a standard CO2 regulator would fit.

I also have a couple of dozen of these "Calibration Gas" cylinders.....
Fire extinguishers have a diptube in them.
it needs to be removed unless you want to try shoot liquid co2 into your keg and kill your regulator.
I wouldn't advise doing it yourself.

Grand job Eoin, I'll stick with the CO2 bottle, and leave the fire extinguishers alone.
I like the idea of these Calibration Gas cylinders, they're as handy as a Soda Stream bottle but a bit bigger and
have a 5/8 unf thread which I can fill from the full size Nitrogen or CO2 bottle.
If you are stuck and have to use a FireEx just use it upside down!
What size are the Calibration Gas cylinders? They'd be suitable for refilling a Sodastream bottle?

They have a volume of about 1.8 Litres and will hold 1000psi, the thread in the valve was 5/8 UNF-18 which is a Bolt thread.
I found a Swagelock fitting with enough meat on it to reduce it to 5/8 UNF and can use that to fill and an off the shelf regulator
to use for dispensing.
Thanks. What capacity are the Sodastream ones?
Hey all, I know i'm resurrecting an old thread but didn't think it was worthy of a new one.
Up until now I've rented a CO2 tank from Irish Oxygen. It lasted me for ages but ran out the other day so I started looking at better (and cheaper!) options, especially as I can't get to where i'd usually go. I was in touch with Munster CO2 today but he's not selling any tanks. Anyone know where I can get any in the Cork area or would I be best ordering from the likes of AJ Edge (https://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/equipment-chemicals/co2-from-aj-edge-bray-and-the-nhc/) as mentioned in that thread?
Keep an eye on adverts.ie and donedeal.ie
They pop up fairly regularly for bars and aquariums

Cheers Eoin, have hopefully sourced one which originally came from AJ Edge, so should be up and running again soon.
Got sorted with a keg and got it filled yesterday in Munster CO2, great to have that so close!

Does anyone know of AJ Edge can send c02 canister by courier??

They don't sell the bottles, so I can't see them shipping them. Ie-depot in Galway do delivery, but it is pricey due to a special courier being required.

I thought aj edge sell refurbished bottles?
AJ Edge definitely sell refurbed CO2 tanks (ex fire extinguishers). Not sure on shipping though.
Initial cost is for new valve, tank & first fill.

Iedepot stopped doing courier deliveries last year. Not aware of the starting again but stand to be corrected.
