BACKGROUND & PLAN

Hi all, just back from beer paradise! what a place, done all 5 Dusseldorf city breweries, and a great one in Wuppertal as well; met brewers and tasted, tasted, tasted, beer, beer, beer and more beer as well as numerous great pubs and eating places. The Irish pub industry & Public could learn a lot from the German beer scene! The most notable take out was that germans dont get pissed and hassel everyone around them, its a very respectable drinking culture about socialising and enjoying REAL BEER.

BREWDAY
Tasting, banter, brewing & good food at the brewday. All welcome over to our homebrew club meet, which as usual is an informative, social, fun and rewarding experience

What happens?

Tasting, banter, brewing & good food. All welcome over to our homebrew club meet, which as usual is an informative, social, fun and rewarding experience.Im setting april 20th for next Kildare Brewday. Plan is a Dusseldorf Altbier and a Dusseldorf Dunkel ale by spliting the brew in two parts, it should be very interesting for those atending especially those moving up and want some insight of possibilities of playing around (one brew but two differing beers). The beers mentioned are simple brews, just  two grain types and one bitter & one flavour hop (N.brewer & Perle)

What are we tasting

Tasting the following:

Coffee stout, peated/ smoked ale, Extra stout, English Mild, Belgian Candy ale, European pale ale, English Dark ale, and a couple of  beers from Dusseldorf including a Kurtzer Altbier and a Wuppertal brauhaus seasonal winter ale.

Damo

Bren,  Sounds like a great day planned.

Do you cater for coach trippers from The Garden county? ;D

Hi Brendan

Would it be possible for you to pay the recipes and a set of instructions of how to do this two beers from the one brew?

Many thanks,

Shanna

What happens?

If brewing a batch of say a Dusseldorf Altbier, which is an amber ale, a nicely balanced and sessionable type of ale it is possible to take half this wort to a different fermenter and modify it into a different brew. In de case of our brewday I aim to make half de wort into a maltier, hoppier, caramelly Dunkel (dark beer) by using extra aroma hops, some caramel malt and a different yeast.
hope this helps, it is not a recipe as such. We brew de Altbier from Beersmith software and modify some of the wort.

In case of any other beer de same principle can apply.

hope dis helps.

that shoulnt b a prob. It depends on ur setup tho, you wud need 2 modify my recipe 2 suit ur setup. I use an 18 litre brewing gear.

its on sat week and I wil hav it on beersmith so I can pass the recipe.

Im doin a second version of an altbier i entered in bull & castle which scored a respectable 31. Ive been 2 dusseldorf 4 5 days and learned a lot about dis beer style so shud b great improvement next time.

Unfortunately I can't make that day. But I'd advise anyone to take Bren up on his offer if you can - they're excellent hosts, great food, beer, banter & Bren has a great way of explaining everything so even numpties (like me) can understand. Well worth a trip!

Col

AArgh! I was determined to make this one - I have an in-law in Kildare Town I can stay with, and the day appeared to be free...and then up came a match for one of my darling sons. Now, I'm not complaining about that and never will (I'm immensely proud of their sporting interests and achievements), but am I destined to forever be a disillusioned wine maker and a brewing virgin?
So if you want my address it's number one at the end of the bar,
Where I sit with the broken angels, clutching at straws,
And nursing our scars.

great news on the weather front...

Dry, calm with some good sunshine, this means we will be brewing outdoors and enjoying our day around the big table! Good few attending so I look forward to a great day.

Dont forget bring a taster bottle of homebrew or a good beer from the Offy to add to the taster / tester line up!

As mentioned in the event details http://www.meetup.com/realbeer/events/113442112/  along with our home produce, we are also tasting two beers specially brought in from Dusseldorf a Kurzer altbier from Kurzer brewery and a winter special from the Wuppertal Brauhaus a very special bonus!!!
