Duvel Clone

Anybody tried this recipe?
Just wondering if the results work out okay?

Ingredients:
Black Rock Lager Beer Kit
Black Rock Light liquid Malt 1.5kg
1kg Copper Tun Liquid Brewing Sugar
Manuka Honey 250g (Good Quality)
Saaz Hops 25g
Safale S-04
Fermenting 1: Zombie Dust AG
Fermenting 2: Zombie Dust Extract
Conditioning 1: Abdji
Conditioning 2: -

Without wishing to be negative, there isn't a hope of making a clone of Duvel by hacking beer kits. However if you concentrate on just making a good Belgian ale you might end up more pleased with your efforts.

By using liquid malt extract, you'll likely end up with something a lot darker and sweeter than Duvel which is very pale and dry.

S04 is a low attenuating yeast commonly used in English ales, I can't imagine it would make a good Belgian strong ale. Aside from the fact that the flavours that it would produce are very un-Belgian, it would leave far too much residual sweetness.

That recipe looks dodgy imo. There are much better kit hack recipes out there than that.

Are you limited to kits, or are you able to do a boil with unhopped extract. You just need a large stockpot and a way of cooling it.

Dunkel

Brewferm make a "Diabolo" kit which is supposed to be a Duvel clone. Haven't tried it myself, but heard it was pretty close. Could be worth a try.
