Title: Advice Needed Kegging Setup
Post by: stickman1019 on May 25, 2022, 03:45:26 PM
Well guys first time poster so apologies if in the wrong section.

Just getting into homebrew and think I like the idea of kegging.

The below is on sale in adverts for $230

http://www.adverts.ie/26716530

Does this represent good value?

Also is this all that is required for kegging or is there additional equipment required.

Any advice or suggestions appreciated

It's okay but if it was me I'd get the bits from scratch from either the homebrewcompany or ebay or aliexpress. That gas tank is also pretty small. You can get a fire extinguisher big tank from AJ Edge in Bray or otherwise online

Best way to serve from a corney keg is to use a fridge

If your based in Dublin or near then go to Edge's in Bray. They will give you a gas tank for €50 with refills €10.

Way overpriced. You can get exactly what you need for about half that. It also has pin lock posts and disconnects. I have never used these but was under the assumption that ball lock posts and disconnects were better. They are certainly more popular.

Go for NUKA taps as they are a great tap and have many accessories made to fit with them.

These taps come in black or stainless steel. What makes them better is the spout can be swapped out for several fittings. Stout spout, growler spout, counter pressure bottle filer.

See the counter pressure post that can be screwed into the tap, what else is needed to complete the whole bottle filler set-up?

In the original ad, it looks like 3/8 beer line in use. 3/16 is better as it will step down the serve pressure and reduce foaming. The tap does have flow control in it, but 3/16 line would be better, and it's easier to manage.

Once its properly under pressure, you will need to be serving cold. So its not enough to have the keg hanging around the house.

Original deal doesn't look anything special, just seems like a sum of the base parts with extra for labour on top.

Ok, I think I see what it is for now. Doesn't seem totally necessary for the likes of transferring from keg to keg though. You can use a counter pressure filling gun with it. I have never used one so don't know if this keg post spout benefits or not.
