A few people have asked for the recipe of the BBQ beans I did for the brewday BBQ. So here it is

Ingredients
500g dry cannellini beans
500g Smoked bacon...I use a combination of streaky smoked bacon and panchetta from Lidl
1 Red onion chopped finely
3 Tbs of  chopped jalapenos
1/4 cup of tomato puree
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of black treacle
1L of veg stock
1/4 Tsp of cayenne pepper
1Tsp black pepper
2 Tsp salt

Method

Soak your beans overnight in cold unsalted water
Preheat oven to 120 C
In a large oven proof casserole dish fry off your bacon for a few min untill it releases some fat..3 min or so
Lower to a medium heat and sweat off your onion and jalapenos..5 min
Stir in you tom puree, sugar and treacle
Drain off your beans and add to mix
Add your stock, salt, pepper and cayenne
Increase you heat to high and cook till your got a boil
Put it in the oven for 6 - 8 hours....if your doing a double portion it will take around 9 1/2 hours

Enjoy

Shane nothing to the coleslaw.. It was just shredded white and red cabbage, a few spoons of mayo, a few splashes of cider vinegar and a pinch or two of celery salt and some pepper.. I do it to eye.. Just go easy on the celery salt

How did the beans work out in the crock pot danny.?

cruiscinlan

Where do you get the cannellini beans at all? Is there a different variety you can use?

lordstilton

Tesco's in the dried bean section.http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Product/Details/?id=256532750 you could use flageolets if you were stuck..all tesco's have cannelloni but

magnethead

Lovely Stuff, Mine turned out a touch salty but very nice all the same(600g of Smokey bacon)...next time, I'll reduce the smoked bacon and mix in Panchetta like you did.

Blueshed

Had a portion of these Saturday evening and can't stop craving more.

Need to make another batch myself.
