Had a grand time at the Green Hop beer tent in canterbury last week. 24 beers from 20 brewers, with a good spread of types of beer on tap.

Of course, being an Irishman,I mingled with the ensemble of people all enjoying what Kent has to offer. I met with a wonderful beer ticker who has over 13000 ticks and was buying 2 beers at a time(alf's),and as he drank each one, took out his note book and wrote down each one. I asked him what his name was and for the life of me no matter how many times he said it,I could not understand it. We gave up and just continued to drink beer,he is a friend of Mickthetick. Later I met with one of the brewers who apon hearing my accent was interested to hear what was happening accross the pond :),we talked about how the business was developing her on the main side of the pond ;)in which I told him that we have a mix of keg beer and cask, but mainly keg. This did not upset him so I pressed on. Asked him how the micro brewers of Kent view their big brother,i.e. Shepherd Neame,he is a tall man and he straightened his back looked around a bit nervous and then said that they are bully's,I quickly concurred and told him that Diageo and Heineken here on my side of the pond ;) were the same. This made him feel comfortable because he did not like the idea of someone overhearing this. We chatted along for a while longer and then I remembered my visit to the Whitewater brewery in Northern Ireland,I had taken some photo's of a piece of equipment. "I must show you this and see what you think of it",said I,he held my alf while I scoured my phone photo's and when I showed it to him he exclaimed "a yes its a heat exchanger,,,but why do they have 3 exchangers",I then explained that it of course it was in fact a pasteurizer built by Whitewater themselves. A moment passed and I then felt that maybe I had gone too far,was I a secret spy sent to test loyalty,my tall new brewer friend was clearly disturbed by this and also appeared fascinated,I felt like the 10 year old boy who has found his big brothers porn mag's and brought them into the school yard. He wanted to see more but clearly was uncomfortable looking at my pictures. I put them away but could see that he now was thinking about this more than wanting to talk. After a few more moments of chit chat we each found a reason to part and did so politely. I only hope that I did not cause too much trouble :P. It was time for me to leave the tent and seek out some pulled pork to help soak up the beer.
