Good morning all,

Here is the recipe for my Gold Medal APA at this years Nationals. Overall score was 37. It was my personal opinion that the beer was a little on the sweet side and that was picked up by the judges too so I would consider bumping the IBU's slightly (that is what I will do on the next iteration). By the way this beer used the freshest hops I could get my hands on. They were 2017 Yakima Valley Galaxy hops and the packet was first open for this beer. If you want to get the best out of this recipe you'll need to get the freshest hops you can find.

78% Maris Otter
6.9% Crystal 20L
4% Crystal 80L
4% Wheat Malt
4.3% Oat Malt
3% CaraMunich II

60 Minute addition of Galaxy to give about 22 IBU
5 Minute addition of Galaxy to give about 13 IBU
Dry hopped for 4 days with 50g of Galaxy in a 25L batch.

Yeast was S04

OG was 1062, FG was 1014.

Judges scores and feedback were

Aroma: 10/12
Appearance: 2/3
Flavor: 15/20
Mouthfeel: 3/5
Overall Impression: 7/10

Aroma: 7/12
Appearance: 3/3
Flavor: 14/20
Mouthfeel: 4/5
Overall: 7/10

I did make some water additions that I don't have to hand right now. I'll update that later.

***Edit - Water profile below***
Ca - 95
Mg - 2
Na - 11
SO4 - 161
Cl - 59
HCO3 - 33

Make necessary additions depending on your local water supply.

Happy brewing.

Congrats on the Gold and thanks for sharing the recipe. Much appreciated!

Cheers Mick.  Brewed your winner from last year which was a cracker, so may have to give this one a go also.  Congrats again on the gold.

Cheers Jonathan, I hope you enjoy it. Just up the IBU's by about 5-7 and you should have a beautiful beer on your hands.

Thanks Mick.  A lot of beers in the pipeline right now, so will be the summer before I get to it, but based on last years success, I'll certainly give it a go when time permits.
