Anyone have any orders they are waiting on?
Their domain expired yesterday and is now gone. Either it's an honest oversight or they are out of business. Was about to place an order with them for the first time yesterday but they were missing some stock of what I wanted so I held off. I'm glad I did now.
Their website has been flaky over the last while. Hopefully it's just an oversight.
i ordered a couple of fittings a few days ago... payment was taken yesterday. They were very low in stock though, i was looking for other bits to see if I could add anything to the order, but pickings were slim.
I wanted some disconnects and they showed fine but once I got to checkout it said they were out of stock. That was annoying so I didn't go ahead with the other bits I wanted.
They never responded to any emails either.
i don't think they ever responded to emails... i did get stuff from them before and there was no issue.
That's a bugbear of mine. Not responding to emails when you are an internet based company is just wrong.
I agree! it's counter-intuitive... not responding to any kind of customer contact if you give them that medium as an option is annoying!
Dont buy those disconnects Reuben. They dont seal. Ive 8 of em here that dont work properly & leak wort all over the place (stainless female quick disconnects are the issue - the males are fine).
Hmmm I have one set from THBC but wanted more. Haven't used yet as I'm not done building the brewery.
They are what the electric brewery uses.
Wyh is this in the "For Sale" section Reuben when you are not selling anything ? This should be in general discussion afaik and i think you would agree,i know it was just an oversight on your part i am sure. ;D
Not an oversight. It's in the for sale section as people who are looking for something that is for sale are likely to check here. It's all about warning people that there might be an issue with their orders.
Perhaps it belongs somewhere else but it's getting the attention it needs here, especially since at least one person who just made an order is now aware so can try and contact them to be safe. I would call that job done.
If you put it in the "General Discussion" section it would be in the correct section and still get attention, this is for stuff for sale ;D
the bits I ordered arrived today...

They are the same in looks but arent the same quality from my experience. Morebeer ones are the original QD. All the rest are chinese copies & you can be lucky or unlucky with them.
Good to know.
Since they were out of stock anyway, I was going to get from brewbuilder. (http://brewbuilder.co.uk/quick-disconnects.html)
Let me know how you get on. I need 3 after getting stung by the leaky ones from aliexpress.
Websites back up.
I will avoid using them again. Got a few things from them, they messed up an item on the order, phoned the number on the invoice which turned out to be a wrong number, then tried the no on the website which repeatedly rang out....all during business hours. As per everyone else they don't answer emails. Obviously not a professional business
I would recommend avoiding them. I placed a large order including a 58 liter stockpot. I was sent a completely different pot then was displayed on the site.
The dimensions were completely off.
This is what was displayed on the site and what I ordered

Looks fine right?
This is what I received

The thing is super wide and totally unsuitable. The blurb on the site said "Made for brewing, these Heavy Duty Brew Kettles are the finest available" What a joke that is.
I was told after asking if i was sent the wrong pot by mistake "They are all like that... I might change the picture"
The same disingenuous picture is still used to flog this rubbish.
Numerous unanswered calls later and emails back and forth I finally got a refund after two months!
Even without the horrible customer service as mentioned, the site is extremely insecure.
May be appropriate to allow vendor right to reply before we slate him anymore
Those are jam boiling pots
Sounds like really bad customer service tho :(

Casserole pot. Not jam boiling. Sorry for being pedantic.

They won't reply.
Surely someone in the know/trade/NHC/Beoir must have a name/contact for these? ?

Traditional Jam boiling pots are a very wide, low pot made of a thin layer of conductive metal, historically copper or aluminium, but people have move away from copper because of safety concerns :P
I thought Saruman had a contact number?
This is not the vendors primary occupation and may be slow in response
I've heard about from multiple folks and had the pleasure of experiencing similar customer service and issues as above. Emails ignored, fobbed off on the phone the lot. Was tempted to have a rant on here about it but just decided to take my money elsewhere.
With the great value they had on the brewing Equipment, if all these folks had been looked after in the first place, even just just the fundamental "acknowledge the customer concerns" approach, I'm sure most of them would have been a returning customer.

but I don't seem to be able to log into my account profile to see my order history...
Despite having successfully bought from these guys before, I think I'll shop elsewhere in future.
Wow, some interesting experiences here and I just wondered if they had closed down and wanted to warn people of the possibility.
Such a shame because they have a great selection of hardware.
I've never had any problems with them. Barry lives close to my folks and even drops stuff to my door himself. Save on delivery for him I suppose.
I had ordered from them before & complained by email about the following:
Yeast past it's expiry date
Broken 5l fermenter (hole in bottom caused by not securing ss valve properly in packaging)
They didn't follow up on it
So I've haven't ordered anything from them since
Sounds like either he's in over his head and needs a spare set of hands to look after post sale queries, or it might be just a case that his heart isn't in it anymore..

Yeah looks that way but it is a pity. They had a good selection and reasonable prices, just can't live with the bad side.
Any business heads here?
There's an opening for someone who does good customer service on hardware.
It'd be very difficult to do with the likes of Aliexpress around.
I avoid aliexpress myself, I find you can be stuffed with pure shite sometimes
Pretty much everything from Ali for a brewery build is good bar the stainless female QDs in my experience. Taps, bulkheads, elbows, threaded nipples, dial thermometers etc all fine. Ive built two 100L 3 vessel breweries now, my own one with Angel Homebrew & Homebrew Builder parts, and another for a work mate with all Ali express fittings. If I was doing my own again Id go with Ali fittings as they're the exact same imo & at third of the price. Id bet the HBS are all selling allibaba fittings & adding their margin for resale.
Lads was there any further news than this as I was going to get JG fittings from them?
What do you need other HB shops stock JG stuff now
I phoned them last month and they were still trading. The guy said I could drop out and collect the gear rather than wait for the post.

I need the 3/16 to 1/4 FFL female adapter, as well as 3/16 elbows and 3/8 to 3/16 reducers. All my line is 3/16" although I do have some 3/8" which I will use for gas.
As far as I can make out though only thehomebrewcompany and mybeerandwine do JG fittings though
ooh ebay

ooh ebay
Always my first port of call, however theres few enough sellers with JG fittings at the moment and they're about 40% dearer as priced higher and then with the sterling rate being what it is.
Give them a call they may still have some fittings in stock

Or just go to the Irish JG importer:
BTI Engineering Supplies
400 Greenogue Business Park
Rathcoole Dublin
01 401 0138
Only downside is that nearly all are supplied in bags of 10!

Cheers, have to see if they'll sell direct though.
Yup they do, I got a few things from the last year, ive the price lists somewhere at home.
Just checked the list I got they don't do 3/16 John guests only 5/16,3/8 and 1/2
Well a few years back they sold me about €100s worth or so!
The ones in BTI are the bevfit ones, http://www.bevfit.ie/product-range.php (http://www.bevfit.ie/product-range.php) . It looks like MLH are the new john guest distributors in Ireland http://www.mlh.ie/news/may-2012-mlh-appointed-john-guest-importer-and-distributor-for-ireland/ (http://www.mlh.ie/news/may-2012-mlh-appointed-john-guest-importer-and-distributor-for-ireland/) . I prefer the bevfit ones to john guest, and the ones the hbc sell.
Cheers dcalnan for the link looking at Bevfit they don't have 3/16" fittings. I'll email them and see though.

Agreed, many thanks for the update.
Its just that JG has a much larger range than Bevfit!
Must give MLH a bell and see if they have a trade counter and/or what are there Ts&Cs
Yeah considering how many jg we all go through, it's a relationship that would be good to have. Maybe even buy bags of 10 at club level... I need about 5 90 degree 5/16 fittings alone :)
So just been onto MLH and whilst they don't have a trade counter as such will be happy to sort out some bags for us.
Bag of 10 is the unit of supply!
I spoke to Gavin Scott on 01 824 3645, so if any one wants to get price/availability then give him a bell!
Attatched is the JG catalogue for part numbers
I like this place for JG fittings:
http://www.ro-man.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=286_1120 (http://www.ro-man.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=286_1120)
While I think of it, are the threads of the Cornelius disconnects NPT or BSP? As well as the shanks on beer taps etc.?
1/2 NPT and BSP both have the same number of threads/inch. More or less and adapter is needed but 1/2 inch plumbing tape is all needed.
