Title: Honey Weiss Beer
Post by: Kevin O'Roundwood on June 24, 2015, 01:03:36 PM
My next brew..

Anyone tried anything like this? It sounds interesting. I love beer and I love honey - surely a no-brainer!!

Also I'm hoping I can finally brew something that the missus won't throw back at me!   :P

Sounds like an interesting beer kit hack. Did you make it since you posted here?

Just stuck it on yesterday.  That reminds me - forgot to take a gravity reading!

Should be interesting anyway I reckon. Used Orange Honey I got in Supervalu. Slight taste of orange off the honey so it'll be interesting to see if this comes through in the beer

Will do. Couldn't take a gravity reading in the end. There was so much head in the test tube and in the time it took for it to die down it must've started fermenting cos ever after nearly 2 days there was still about a centimetre of foam in the tube??? Gave it a taste and by god was it sweet! Still bubbling away nicely anyway, can't wait to see how it turns out

I`m really new to all this brewing stuff . and im sure there`s a much better way of sorting this .but what i do is fill the tube as near to the top as i can , then slowly drop the hydrometer in . remembering to do it over the wort and not the kitchen floor or worse lol . make sure that every thing which is going to come in contact with the wort is clean/sanitized . i find it pushes any foam out of the tube and down the sides .makes it a little easier to get a clear reading .

I use the tube the hydrometer came in ,which is only about an 1" or so wide . it prob wont work so well in wider ones since you wont be displacing the same % of liquid . will also try to clear a patch in the bucket ,to see if i can get a decent reading and if they match up.

Good man Pepin! I knew there must've been a better way... The head usually dies down for me after a few minutes but cos I took the sample after a fairly vigorous fermentation had kicked off it just kept on coming

i do the same, but i suck all the delicious foam out instead of letting it drip anywhere  :-*

Good thinking. It'll save me licking the floor
