Judges required for Liffey brewers Comp on the 26th of Sept....This is a BJCP registered comp so points up for grabs. Please post below if your interested in judging and we will contact you soon with details.
Thanks,
Liffey Brewers
I'll help out
Do you have to be experienced or certified?
No were an equal opportunities beer comp... We'll take any one
I will add my name in there so
1 Dr Jacoby
2 Alan Walsh (auralabuse)
I'll be a steward if ye want
Nice one Derek
Can judges/stewards enter the competition?
I'll let the organisers confirm but it wasn't an issue for Stewards/Judges in GCB comp.
I may comment however absolutely no markers/labels and avoid "unique" bottles or caps as well or they would probably be disqualified :(
Something that will be strictly enforced in the Nationals 2016.
A HB'er in Sweden told me they have to use 1 standard type of 500Ml bottle :o
My question was a nudge to flush out potential judges/stewards who maybe thought they couldn't enter and judge/steward ;)
No excuses noe O0
:)
Judges and stewards can enter, no issues with that
Is there public transport available to get to the judging venue from Dublin?
The 66's and the 67 bus go right past the door with the bus stop immediately outside https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.356546,-6.464613,3a,75y,270h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sXAnZLZ4VZSgT1a3m3kY1YQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Yes I'm still available, can I just ask that organisers keep in touch via PM or email though, I've subscribed to this thread but its very likely I'll miss important messages or updates.
Cheers!

Stewards too? :o
I know it's a few weeks out but do you know yet roughly what time the judging starts and ends?
Around 12 I'd say
Is it possible to judge and drive after?, silly question I know but I have never done it.
I would say yes...but you'd have to confirm with an experienced judge. Your looking at around 6 beers to judge..you shouldn't need more than 100ml per beer..that would be spread out too..once you hang on for an hour after you should be well under the limit...any judges here able to confirm this??

Yes of course. You only need to swallow a very small amount of beer. Most of the judging is in in a non-swallow mode!
After all look how they taste wines!
12 beers over about 3 hours could be as swalloewing as little as 12 x 50 ml thats 600 ml or just over a pint!
Don't drink at lunch time and you can do another 12 in the afternoon.
While the judging etc is going on you've metabolised most of the drink (UNLESS you are doing the Hi alchol beers)
I would never drive after judging. The beers can creep up on you very easily. But I guess if you were disciplined and really only sipped each beer you'd be fine.
+1 Best not to
We need to drink as much beer as required to properly judge the beer. In my opinion its not 50 or 100 ml.
And it would b very unprofessional as a group if we supported judges driving home after a day of judging.
Bren some of those beers will only be smelled ;D
The real question here is should someone who has just judged (drank samples of) at least 6 unlabelled beers of unknown alcohol content be allowed to drive a car?
Really people? As so called responsible adults should we even have to ask?
Taxis arent that fe(k!N expensive
I stand corrected.. Take the advice of the experienced lads and don't drive
It obviously depends on where your getting the taxi to 😖
Tell yis wat ill bring my breathalyser along.@ ciderhead.. Some truth there !
If so little of the beer is sampled (2 judges x 50 ml) why aren't 33cl bottles the competition norm? They're as readily available as 50cl and would be easier to transport and process
A best of show could have 5 judges, the head judge is often asked to assist judges with sampling, avoiding dregs, resampling to identity a subtle off flavour, loss if beer if its a gusher, can be reused if there is a mini bos keeping good bottle for main Bos, if one bottle is off but 2nd one is good then there might be enough for main bos.
There are many pros to having 500ml.
I'm glad a little sense has prevailed here.
Never drink and drive, it's not worth it.
Yeah, I was not sure, having never judged and not knowing the finer details. I'm afraid this rules me out, I was on a very tight timeframe as it was. I'm really sorry if this causes a problem.
No bother at auralabuse.. Thanks for volunteering in the first place
dont forget Ill be judging for ye
Nice one bren.

Hi can someone confirm if this is 2008 or 2015 guidelines? I was sure I remembered reading 2015 but then the poster at http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/index.php/topic,10327.msg126786.html#msg126786 seems to use 2008.
Edit: Ok I see here (http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/index.php/topic,9899.msg124306.html#msg124306) it's 2008. No problem but any specific reason for not using the new ones?
2008
Bit of a transition period Id say. my head is wrecked anyways as since i installed bjcp 2015 i have no access to the old guide ???
Im sure if theres a minor issue re style Id imagine we can clarify and refine on the day so no one is docked points if there is a misunderstanding. Eg kellerbier is on 2015 bjcp but for this comp (2008) could be entered in cat23a special beers. this and all comps I hope are conducted in good faith and its all fun and education.
Id suggest if anyone has any concerns re style guide then bring it up and between kellie and garrett all will be well.
best of luck to everyone over the weekend with both comps happening :)
The entry form said 2008 when it was active. The bjcp themselves say they expect a transition period, and 2008 is the one we're all familiar with for now.
Lads, sorry but last minute pull out from me, I'm not well at all this morning. My throat is burning and swollen, I'd be useless judging beers, I think hot whiskey is all I'd manage today... I was so looking forward to some good BBQ. Have a good day all.
We are on are way, got delayed leaving! I had to hang my washing out! Too good of a day to miss! See you soon :)
