Title: No Chill hop additions
Post by: grim reality on August 12, 2015, 01:08:48 PM
From what I've read online when you use No Chill you should take 15-20 minutes off your normal hop additions. Eg your 60 minute hops are added at 40 minutes, 10 minute flavour/aroma hops become FWH or dry hopped. But if you add your hops in hop bags can you just remove them once the boil is finished and stick to a normal hop schedule and let the wort cool down with no hops in it? Or am I missing something?

The hop oils are still in the hot wort after you remove the bags

No Chill is grand for beer with only bittering additions but later additions are more complicated and its easy to end up with an overly bitter beer and not in a good way.

in my experience the late hop additions are remaining at isomerisifying temps for too long. If you're going to try flavour additions I'd advise adding them after flameout so it'll be akin to a hop stand where much less isomerisation is occuring because the temp is lower
