Afternoon guys.
We are having a Stout & Mussel Festival from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th September. The weekend will see around a dozen different stouts & porters pouring at both Lamberts & the Sky and the Ground on Wexfords South Main Street. Confirmed breweries include Simon Lambert & Sons, Cleverman, Jack Doyles & Arthurstown Brewery with hopefully another few to come.
During the weekends festivities we shall also be hosting our first homebrew competition, BJCP (2015) categories 9C (Baltic Porter), 13C (English Porter), 15B (Irish Stout), 15C (Irish Extra Stout), 16A-D (Sweet Stout, Oatmeal Stout, Tropical Stout, F.E.S), 20A-C (American Porter, American Stout, Imperial Stout) and Category 34-Speciality Beer (must be stout or porter based).
Entry is only 2.50 euro and limited to one entry per person per sub category.
This will be BJCP accredited.
I will also be starting a thread for people willing to judge. So far we have Will D & Ronan (Beerfly). If anyone would like to volunteer to steward or judge, a wee PM would be great.
Prizes!
We will be offering prizes for Best in Show, 1st, 2nd & 3rd.
3rd place - Voucher for a meal & drinks in Simon Lambert & Sons
2nd place - Voucher for a meal & drinks in Simon Lambert & Sons and a voucher for The Homebrew Company
Best in Show - Beer hamper, voucher for a meal & drinks in Simon Lamberts and a voucher for The Homebrew Company
1st place - Voucher for a meal & drinks in Simon Lambert & Sons and a voucher for The Homebrew Company AND you can come into our brewery and brew a commercial batch of your beer with our head brewer. The recipe will remain your property and will not be brewed by ourselves again. You will design your own badge for the taps and have bragging rights that your beer is on sale in Wexford! (If you are not comfortable with your beer being brewed commercially we can come to another prize arrangement.)
Entry is open from today with the deadline for entries being Thursday 24th September.
Completely stealing Shinys entry requirements here but if you could have the following attached to entries (2 x 500ml bottles WITH ALL LABELS REMOVED) by elastic band;
First name
Surname
NHC forum nickname
BJCP Category
Beer name

Planning to attend on the day (y/n/maybe)
Entries can be dropped into the pub or posted, where they will be kept in the cold room.

ah dec is think thats clashing with the german beer comp. Two comps same day ahhh cant stretch that far!
However as usual we can brew a couple beers to support the event.
If its on the Sunday we're good, be nice to support Mr Cara and the work he has done for the NHC.
I will probably drive down and stay over if anybody from Dublin needs a lift?
Sunday would be perfect actually. We would have the pub to ourselves for the afternoon.
Will c wat we can do.
Would be great to have you and Kellie down again Bren.
Comp now registered with BJCP as Simon Lambert & Sons Stouts & Porter Comp.
I haven't brewed Stout for 12 months, one of these feckers better place ;D

Ah crap, didn't see the original post, so I'm well late to this party.
Wonder if I can sneak a Dark Mild into the porter category with some 'dry malting'.
I won't tell :)
Fecks sake lads. Diagio do a decent stout in 7 days we do one in 10 days.....ye hav 26 days....can get a lager in dat time !!

I got a pre prohibition porter ready.. by mistake ....
How do I get it in
Any Dublin drop off points for this?
Just get em to Imark or Dempsey and I'll sort it after a good shake of course! Only joking I should have them in Wexford week beforehand.
Any Capital entries? Ronan?
Sound I'll drop it off to Imark along with the water sample on Wednesday
I've just entered there now but just a quick question. I normally put initials on the caps of the bottles so i can distinguish what i'm gonna drink (e.g P for porter, etc). Is this a problem or shall i just blacken the cap out with the marker? Any ideas of what to do?
Just sent payment Cara for 1 entry, cheers.
All competition bottles should have no discernible labels or markings.

Thanks ciderhead
We just hit ten entries there today so the odds are looking good!!!
Our "Man in the Merc" will be traversing the country on his normal business over the next 2 weeks so if there are people out there wishing to enter but not willing to use An Post, speak up and we can arrange something.
Happy brewing.
Dec
I'll also be north the border next week if any fellow Nordys want to enter.
@ Cara ..............U just hit 13 there today ;)
Just noticed that!!!
Anybody passing by Castlerea area? Want to enter first ever comp :)
can you get it any closer, Harmac only sees me 3 times a year ;)

I can leave it at the "goods out" gate :D
We're at 16 entries from the forum now and about a half dozen (so far) from the local lads.
Just a gentle reminder to send the money as a gift please and that all entry fees are going towards prizes.
Thanks again guys and good luck.
I have what could be described as an American Stout. High in bitterness to the point of Black IPA but also used Rum and Raisin so should I head for the speciality or American Stout section for an entry or hold on to them and enjoy them myself?!
Sounds like something I would enjoy so send them on down! I think the speciality category would be most relevant. Just pop in the style that is based on with your entry please.
Nice one, speciality it is so. I'll sort it out Monday as I'm away for the weekend. And if anyone is passing through Ballymahon/Longford I can offload them for delivery! Cheers.
Just popped my entry on PayPal, put me deets on the notes. Fees paid
Might show the face on the day depending on funds (hitting up Amsterdam the following week so need to keep a few quid aside) but will give my entry to whomever just in case. 2 of the last 4 bottles, you better like it. I did anyway

Edit: given the day that's in it, will there be any pale stout?

I will :) So I have to contact with Brian or Imark ? They both are from Lucan ??
Mr Dempsey if you could please could you bring all capital entries from Ronan (Beerfly)? or I can collect them from Ronan either but you Capitals boys need to get you ducks in a row as they will be going to the fridge in Wexford Monday/Tuesday next week!
How to pay a fee ??
All info in the first post. Cheers Samael
Just paid my fee via PayPal.
Should be able to get my two bottles over to Ronan to bring down.
For the labels with your info do you have a label we need to print or just write it on a piece of paper?
I will post up a template for uniformity later this evening actually. Thanks lads and lassies. Nice little field of entries now!
Is it this fella by any chance?

Sorry I just missed that. Paid :) I made my own label template :P
Can I stick the entries in the post and put the fee in with them? What's the address?

:P
I'll post these off tomorrow. It's my last two 500ml bottles and one is a swing top so I hope that's ok. The next time I taste this beer will be on tap in Wexford so.
@CARA: Are you going to post full entry list after closing registration?
I Will post numbers of entries per category but won't give entrants names just in case judges can recognise certain brewers styles or bottles/caps

Declan although not on your allowed-category list, category 27 pre-prohibition porter is good-to-go in you comp I presume??
33 paid entries on PayPal but I think I remember counting 37 entries in the cold room. Just sorting through everything again one last time. I will post more details later when I have everything labelled up and in order.
We have 8 judges for tomorrow and 3 stewards plus myself. Should run very very smoothly and quickly to leave plenty of time to enjoy one of the 9 stouts we have on :D
Judging will be upstairs in our meeting room to ensure no distractions for our lovely volunteers.
Good luck and thanks to all our runners. Except the 6 of ya who cant work paypal fees properly. :P
The Homebrew Company, Shane being the legend that he is, have donated 140 euro worth of vouchers too. Legends.

You should have got a pm/email to say what numbers are yours from Cara
I haven't gotten a pm yet :(
Anyone who didn't get a message with their entry number didn't include their forum name on the entry. If you give me a PM with your real name I'll send on your entry number. Thanks.
