Title: Crates for 500ml bottles?
Post by: J o e on March 10, 2013, 08:25:41 PM
Hey does anyone have a source for good crates for 500ml bottles?

I'm building up my stock of glass and just bottled by first full glass bottles batch. All the 500ml bottles are these ones;

I previously kept the plastic bottles in the boxes they came in, but they're falling apart a bit now.

crates are hard to get hold of but you could always ask your local off license or Aldi/Lidl for the cardboard box's that had 500ml btls in them.

Nearly all 500 mls are non-returnable and so come in flimsy cardboard boxes.

Wine boxes for 6 or 12 75cl boxes are a lot more substantial and will do the job a treat. Have a word with your local wine merchant

The plastic crates you mean are for 12 returnable Pint bottles. ( Bulmers / Smithwicks are the main two ).

The deposit allowed on a full crate of 12 emptys is €4-10 (Musgraves C&C).

So if you WERE to make an offer to a friendly landlord off a fiver a crate would be fair!
